Let's not forget that a less-prepared car with an intake held together with weedtrimmer cord beat all of us, including the famous Hollis Miata, at the Divisionals last weekend.
There is so much to be said for driving abilities.
BTW, you can look at my profile for a list of mods that I have done for my STS car. If I were to do it again, I doubt that I would change much.
Ya know it doesn't look so bad until i see a pic of it posted on a forum LOL I may have to make that my new avitar :)
But to build a good mid prep STS car doesn't cost a lot...
IF you can't find good deals...and if you're willing to spend SOME $$$....you can duplicate my car as follows:
Bilstein shocks off a 99 - $350 new roughly
Re-valve on the shocks - $300
99 top hats from Mazda comp - $150ish maybe?
GC coilovers - $400
RB hollow front bar - $180 roughly
Magnaflow exhaust - $300 shipped
Crappy ebay header - $100 shipped
JR high flow cat - $200ish shipped
1/2 airbox turned upsidedown and weed eater string - $0.50
Rota Slipstream 15x7.5 wheels - $450 shipped
RE-11 Bridgestones - $522 shipped
So for about $3000 you can prep a miata that will run quite fast...or get the crap used like I did and it will only cost about $2000 :)
Just buy a little bit at a time....
IF I wanted to make the car more street-able I'd have gone with Koni RACE shocks.
