Default New guy, first time for RWD.

My name is Josh, I have just jumped ship from FWD Volkswagens to the brave new world of RWD roadsters! I sold a 1993 VW Corrado that was my daily driver and bought a racing green? 1999 which is my new daily driver. My roommates and I are going to be "competing" in the 24 Hours of LeMons this October in Houston, my first foray into racing. I am an aircraft mechanic during the day and do any kind of mechanical work my friends can con me into the rest of the time, and am always willing to lend a hand.
Does anyone know of some good roads "around" the area? I moved from Washington state and would really like to find something with hills and blind corners.
Anyway, hope to meet some of you guys sometime, keep it safe out there.

Welcome from the airport, so where are you turning wrenches?

    welcome

Isn't LeMons race where they smash a car at the end? I heard they don't like E30's and miatas.

    Welcome!

Usually when I feel like a nice country drive I'll head up near Princeton and Lake Lavon and hit up FM 546 starting at the Lucas Rd./FM 3286 end and following it north all the way up to Industrial Blvd., by the Collin County Regional Airport. Not very hilly (not much in N. Tx. is), but some decent curves. I usually go at night when there's less traffic and I can push the needle up a little further on the speedo. Lots of good roads around that area, but it's easy to get lost if you're not familiar with them.

Welcome aboard. I am an A&P as well, but work in industrial maintenance now.

For a good one day trip, I like to go to Talimena scenic drive for a day. Its about 500 miles round trip, but includes 100 miles of twisties through the Ozarks if you plan it right.

    Welcome.

You might try some of these roads.
On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

Thanks for all of the ideas on where to drive, I will definitely hit those up very soon. Mr626, you are right that at Lemons they destroy a car in the end and they don't like e30s or miatas very much.

    Welcome!

You should really try some of the twisties here. Much safer than blind curves on unfamiliar roads. You can also find out if you really have any skilz

Either way - enjoy the car and the board.
