I remember going out to Great Southwest for an autocross in the 70's. Saunder and Uncle Bill were both running '69 Corvettes in BSP, IIRC. Both were fast, even back then.

I also remember the B-36 that was on static display there.

Another name in the BSP vettes at that time is Andy & Liz Franco.

Andy is now running a C6 vette in SM.

Heh, that's cool. I work right around the corner from that spot where the @ is in the ground - I've seen that sat. photo before. Long ago, there was a pretty fancy little airport where the American Airlines corporate HQ buildings are, and parts of the runway are still visible. Amon Carter Blvd (which runs N/S there on the right was at one point a runway, and at the far North end, on the other side of Hwy 183, there are still parts of that runway. The police and fire/rescue guys use those chunks of tarmac for training now and then, I see them on my way home quite often.

Hopefully, the surface at Mineral Wells doesn't become part of history, only vaguely visible from sat. photos.

Thanks, jrj512, I really enjoyed that link.

I didn't remember that the B-36 was the last one built.

I crawled all over that B36 while it was a Carswell. I am glad they are still trying to save it.
