Thread: Avg Miata MPG?

    Default Avg Miata MPG?

I searched for a thread on this topic but couldn't find one, maybe not putting in right search data???

Anyway, I only get 20 mpg with my 10ae and I was wondering what other mpg people were getting with their Miatas.

Seems like Nails and some others is quite a bit higher than 20.

It all depends upon how you drive. I get betwwen 24 mpg and 27. Some people claim to get 30 mpg and higher, but I have never gotten that high with either the 1.6 or 1.8 cars, but I have not done much highway driving.

20 mpg sounds awfully low... are ya usin' all 6 gears?

I get about 24-25 bombing around town, and I've seen as high as 37 on road trips (downhill, tailwind, etc etc). The lowest I've seen is on track days, where it dips down to 17 or so (including the drive to-and-fro). YMMV, as they say...

My buddy just got a Volvo C30 turbo and he couldn't figure out why it was only getting 15 mpg... then I rode with him and discovered that he uses the throttle as an on/off switch - and it's mostly "on" all the time.

The wife's '02 (also a six speed) was always in the low 20's but that has a lot to do with how it is driven. All in town barely ever on the freeway and for some reason the rear tires don't last near as long as the front ones do???

So we quit keeping track and just add gas as needed.

I average right at 27, with mixed mostly city highway driving. Lets see how it changes when I live closer to work and cut out 20 miles of highway each trip.

    32 highway road trip @ 75mph 35 @ 60mph
    27.5 around town
    14 at the track

Used to get 30 round town with the smaller stock wheels and tires.

I used to average about 23mpg in mine, with 50/50 city/highway driving.

If you guys are still getting 17mpg on the track, you're not driving fast enough.

My tire pressure is a little high, and I am getting 30mpg highway top-down no a/c. When I run the a/c I lose a couple of mpg, and normal tire pressures cost me a mile per gallon. City driving costs me about 4mpg.

Last year, on our trip to Pearsall, pulling the tire trailer, I got about 23 mpg. Normally I only put enough gas in the car to get to the next event. If I figure 25 mpg with the trailer and 30 without, I'm usually very close to empty when I arrive at an autocross. So far I have not ran out of gas.

I usually stay around 25 - 27mpg, no matter how I drive or AC usage, it's wierd.

I drive with a lead foot most of the time, and howl the tires or try to break the end loose around every corner that there's not car around me or a cop at the light. 25 - 27mpg.

If I drive easy in the winter / spring without the AC on, still around 25 - 27.

When I drive our Honda Element, I only get about 18 - 20, no matter how easy I drive it. My wife gets almost 30.

I usually get around 27. I've seen between 25-29 though. I'd like to try to get 30 one tank, but I'm not the most frugal driver.

26 With the top down. 34 on the highway with the hardtop at posted speed, about 22 over 4200 rpm (I'm not telling the speed, 5th amendment).

For many years I averaged 30 MPG. As the car got older and the government forced a change in the formulation of gas, the average dropped to 27.5. Now Red is retired to race heaven and doesn't care what MPG it gets. 20 sounds very low.

I get any where from 8-12 mpg. That is around Cresson, Hallett, Sanger, College Station, Houston and Justin. It really depends on traffic.

I got 30 on hwy with cruise set at 75 before supercharger and ethanol. Now I get about 28. City and spirited backrounds is about 24-26.
The injectors are fully open anywhere above 4200 rpm and at 50% below 4200 rpm. Set the cruise at 4000 rpm and expect 30ish mpg at 75mph. set the cruise at 4300 rpm and expect 21ish mpg at 80 mph. ymmv.
On my '01 the A/C takes about 2 mpg away.
I drive to fast to worry about my cholesterol.
