Thread: I miss my Miata

    Default I miss my Miata

At the risk of sounding like an automotive snob, I've been in this rental fleet, cherry red 2007 Ford Focus for a few days now, and I already miss my Miata . I actually started missing it from the time I turned the key on the Focus. What a peace!

I decided not to get the MazdaSpeed Bumpers, since I don't want the side skirts. So instead, my body guy is going to paint a pair of racing stripes from bumper to bumper and completely de-badge the car. I should be soooo much faster after this mod.

We're thinking of a Pearl White with a light red tint, two stripes roughly 5 or 6 inches wide.

Vinyl stripes look just as good as painted... and they're a lot more reversible.

I feel ya. I haven't driven my car in months, yet it keeps taking my money and time.

If you opt for vinyl stripes, o2cls on miata.net is a local who does fantastic work. He lurks this board too and may be 08MarbleGT on here but not sure. Anyway, look forward to seeing the new look when you get it done.

I feel your pain. Mine was up on stand in the drive for the past 2 weeks. I finished last night installing crashbar, intercooler and new wheels and some little tweaks here and there. I was driving my 1ton Dodge for the past 2 weeks. Finished last night and took my bride out to Sacred Spur Ranch for steak and music. The transition from the truck backto the Miata for the first few miles was...interesting,adventure.

Vinyl are nice when you tire of them you won't have to repaint the whole car. When I first bought mine I really wanted stripes in a bad way. ! year later and seeing other striped cars I am glad I didn't do it. fwiw.

Nails, I met o2cls a while back, and you're right, he does fantastic work. However, since Tom (my body shop artist) is having to clear coat so much of the car anyway, I've decided on painting the stripes. I don't need them to be reversible .

I went by Tom's last night to go over the stripe color and design. I'm so excited that I couldn't sleep last night, it's going to look GREAT!!!

Tom thinks he may be done by Monday night, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed

Oh BTW, Tom said that the NC is extremely well built in the rear to apparently take one heck of a hit. Even though he replaced the sub assembly to the rear bumper, for grins he tried to pull it out, and said the steal was so strong that he wasn't able to bend it with his frame puller. This may explain why I didn't have more damage, despite how hard I was hit. He also had to replace the core support in the front of the car, I got to see the old one, so I'm sure he's really taking care of my baby. With the exception of what I've posted on the Internet, I don't think there will be any signs of a former accident when he's done.

    Pics will follow soon!!!!

I really started missing my miata when I discovered that I live 5 minutes from Harris Hill Road. We'll see what the future holds, though.
