Thread: Opinions on seat options

Default Opinions on seat options

I've been looking around at replacement seats for my 91 or getting the seats recovered. I can get a set of tan leather seats from parts group for 500 shipped to my house. They are in good condition.

The next option I have is to have the seats reupholstered. Checked a local shop today that I was refered to as having done real good work. They said they could do it for 350 bucks a seat full rebuild with new fabric ect.

Now on thing they told me they could do is redo the side bolsters on both seats (the bad parts of the seats) and put the ripped up drivers seat cover back over them as a temp fix.

What I was thinking of doing is having them do that then pick up a set of Wet Okole seat covers and just pop them on over the newly foamed seats and bad factory seat covers. Anyone have any opinion on this? Anyone ever used these seat covers. These seat covers were a big deal back when I was still into Jeeps. They seam good and they fit tight.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Check with Track Dog Racing too... They always have a few sets of used OEM seats in stock, and also stock race seats. I bet if take your passenger seat out before driving over there, they will let you test fit what they have to see how different things would look.

I have Katzkins, they are 100% better than OEM leather.
There real seats not covers like Wet Okies.

I am very pleased with them, and got them from David DeNuzzo at Crazy red Italian.

Default Have two sets

I have two options for you. I have a set of cloth seats from an NA that are in very nice condition (I was considering putting them in my '92 but did not want to go to the trouble of moving the speakers). I could take some pictures. $150 for the pair.

I also have two Corbeau race seats (blue Forza) -one still in the bag, one slightly used. These can be mounted on the OEM rails with a bit of doing. The used one is already mounted on rails. $250 for the pair and I'll throw in another set of rails.

All depends on what you are trying to do.

I would jump all over those racing seats if they even came close to matching my car...

Default can't do pitures

For some reason, maybe it takes time, I can not post pitures. I just paid today so it may take a day or so. I would post pictures of the seats if I could.

You should be able to post pictures. When you create a thread or reply, look for the Manage Attachments box further down the screen.

I have not been able to upload photos from my computer or insert an image from a hosting site. I have had to link to the site. I get a message that "This is not a valid image file."

Photobucket FTW.

Can the Corbeau's be recovered in black from the manufacturer? Maybe interested in one if Jeep isn't.

Jeep, I would recommend racing seat(s) instead of just seat covers. The price isn't much more..

I'd be willing to share if Spec Miata is willing to split the seats up. I really only need one racing seat. However I do need both front NA seats.

Default Something to think about

1) As to recovering the Corbeau - I'm sure anything is possible, but whether it is cost effective is another issue, the seats are currently $220 a piece.
2) As I've told Jeep, I think the best approach is to have your race seat mounted on a set of rails, just like the OEM. It is then a matter of 5 minutes and 4 bolts to swap seats. Having either a rollbar or cross member brace (ala '97) is ideal for attaching a harness to. One of the seats I have is already mounted on rails.
3) I prefer to keep the two as a set until I sell them, becasue a) it is a 2 for 1 sale as it is and b)someone may want a matched set to be able to put one in the PAX side if they teach (which is what I used it for). IF you guys want to split them up - go for it. They are of about equal value - the used one (there is one small rubbed spot on the back where it rubbed the cage in my racecar) is already mounted, so the guy getting the new one has a little work to do, but I do have a set of rails I'll throw in and if you just look at how I did it you would not have any problems.

I'd be willing to take the one with the rails already on it even with the spot on it. That won't bother me as the seat will only be in the car for Auto-x and Time Trail events. I don't teach anything at this moment I just started this about a year ago and I'm still not of the skill level to be teaching anyone anything (probably won't be for a long time).

I do plan on a roll bar and harness in the future though just not sure how far. If I take these seats it'll save me enough money over getting mine recovered to be able to afford a Hard Dog roll bar of some kind.

I just see a problem with getting all of our times to jive. I live in Mineral Wells. That's about 217 miles for me to drive to pick up the seats and I may need to borrow someone's truck lol not sure if they'll fit in my Saturn.

Default NIce to be retired

Timing is probably not an issue for me - I'm retired so I'm around most of the time.

I'll go out and take some pics of the OEM right now, but I still can not post pictures here so I'll send them to Jeep via e-mail.

Default NOt in a Saturn

Send pics to Jeep. Unlikely you can get 4 seats in a Saturn. Maybe. One upside down in Pax, two in back, one in trunk. Trcuk of trailer would be better.

Looks like DOC will attach, but JPG will not. I still can not figure out how people imbed pictures IN the posting rather than have an attachment.

You need to upload your pictures onto an online photo hosting site such as www.imageshack.com

or

www.photobucket.com

Then you can copy the URL of the picture and post it here as

That will put the picture on the site.
