Gas prices aren't really where people are siphoning anymore. Could you have maybe hit it getting your wallet out of the console, when you went into the store? Or could you have left it since you got gas recently?
Yesterday I stopped at the local Albertson's for about 15 minutes. I had the window down about half way, so it was obvious that the car was not locked. When I came out, I noticed that the gas door was popped open. My '91 NA does not have a trunk release, and my gas door release has to be pressed pretty good to get it to pop open.
I'm thinking someone thought they could open my trunk???
Nothing was missing from the interior.

I suppose that any of that is possible, and maybe I didn't latch it securely last time I filled up a couple of weeks ago. I would (and did) notice the door if it were unlatched.
The only thing I carry in there is sunglasses. When I filled up this morning, it takes more than a light touch to open my gas door.
Anyway, just suspicious that someone expected a remote trunk release.
All's well that ends well, right?
Sounds like you need a trunk monkey.
