Thread: 2004 S2000 for sale

Default 2004 S2000 for sale -- updated with pics!

Apologies for being so rude as to make my first post here a classified, but I hope you'll forgive me as a local NTAXS autocrosser and S2ki member (of the same username), and since I'm selling a car that I hope will be of interest to those here. So on to the description...

If anyone is interested please give me a call any time at 214-926-2885. I'm located in north Richardson.

    Year: 2004
    Make: Honda
    Model: S2000
    Color: Silverstone
    Mileage: 36,000

    Price: $15,000 fixed

    Description:
This is a factory-original S2000 in excellent condition, purchased new by me. I'm moving on to a Cayman and I expected to sell the S2000 to a friend in the area, who decided against it at the last minute. I am getting my new car by the end of December, so I must sell in the next 2 weeks. If I find no buyer, I will be trading it in to the dealership. If somebody wants to buy it, I will handle it through Park Place Porsche, who will handle all the paperwork -- essentially you will be buying it from them.

I'm a bit of an audiophile, and the only modification that has been made is a complete professionally-installed replacement of the audio system. Head-unit is Alpine, with iPod connection run to the glovebox between the seats. Amplification is handled by a 74x4 Phoenix Gold "Tantrum" amp, driving Boston Rally component speakers and an 8" elemental designs subwoofer, mounted in a removable custom-fit enclosure in the trunk (also with a 1F capacitor). Also features a Modifry interface that keeps the controls to the left of the steering wheel perfectly functional. This was originally over $2000 in audio gear and it sounds great. I still have the factory head-unit, if the buyer is interested in having it.

I've performed most maintenance myself, and it's never seen a Honda dealership service bay. It's run synthetic oil for most of its lifetime.

It has always lived in Dallas, garaged at home. It hasn't been in any accidents, and there are only a couple of very small dings in the metal, and a bit of normal rock chipping in the front and scuffing at the bottom of the front bumper. I've always used high-quality synthetic wax and the clearcoat is in excellent shape. There are a couple of rock impacts in the windshield unfortunately, although fairly small. The top is in great shape, with no tears.

Tires are Direzza Star-specs that went on the car <5000 miles ago, lots of tread left. Battery has been replaced with a high-quality Optima.

I'll also throw in the three oil filters I still have for it.

All records, receipts, and manuals are available.

$15K is on the high side for a quick sale. I am guessing Park Place is probably offering you much less for trade. With the in/out credit you take advantage of the sales tax and can work the fee into your Cayman deal. I think you would have better luck selling it quickly if you offered it for closer to the trade-in price. Good luck with your sale.
    M3 is always the answer.

Good luck with the sale Matt! This car super clean and well taken care of. Considering the mileage, condition, good tires, and extras I think it's a great deal.

Also, this is a one-owner car.

Well, if I don't find a buyer, I'm actually okay with the trade, with which I'll get a decent price for it. I think for the miles, condition, and the money put into fixing the only thing wrong with the car from the factory (the awful stereo), it's a very reasonable price.

By the way, I'm respecting the forum rules to not post pictures in a sale when I'm not a paid member, but if anyone would like to contact me I can send you pictures of the audio stuff, which is very tastefully installed in the trunk (since the rest of the car just looks like a regular silverstone S2000 -- best to just come check out the condition in person if you're interested).

This is a very clean car. Prices for the S2000 have been steadily dropping, I think I saw some 06's for 15-16K but you never know the condition of random cars on the internet.

Good luck with the sale, are you getting a Cayman S? If so let me know when you get it I've been thinking about one for a while now as well.

I agree in principle, but I am firm in not bargaining on this. If I don't get asking price, I'll just sell it to the dealer and probably pull out much of the audio stuff and sell separately.

Yup, 2010 Cayman S, 6-speed and LSD (I tried the flappy-paddle gearbox and thought it was great, but it was having all the fun instead of me). I'm getting it the first part of January; once it's broken it, you'll definitely see it at NTAXS events, where I'll probably get my butt handed to me by S2000s and Miatas

If the dealer is giving you $15K trade in take it today before they change their mind.

Are they dealing on the '10 Cayman?

Nah, I'm obviously hoping to get *some* more than what the dealer will pay (since they need to mark it up for somebody), but it's not so little that I'm desperate to sell privately.

I was able to deal some on the Cayman, but I ordered it back in July. Since then allocations for Caymans have absolutely plummeted and most dealers are getting few or no cars right now.

Don't forget to take into consideration the sales tax difference between a trade-in and not.

He was probably referring to the MSRP on a new car.

+1 with what Ken says, if they'll give you $15K take it quick.

Baller! I am definitely interested in checking it out and going for a ride (if you don't mind) once you get it in. Congrats on the new ride. The tax savings should only be about 1K (roughly) if you trade it in so if the dealer is offering 14K, I would take it since that's the KBB private party value in excellent condition.

    I was looking for a 2006/2007, I'm poor.

P.S. Park Place has a 09 S in Guards Red for 60K asking.

I have purchased and sold many cars and have a very good idea regarding what a dealer will offer for a trade on different vehicles. My original point was that the seller is try for a quick sale. The asking price is not align for a quick sale. The dealer disregards additional equipment and looks at wholesale numbers and the number of cars of this type being sold. In winter it is hard to move convertibles. In MY opinion the asking price is much closer to the retail price a dealer would ask. Or what one would ask if they wanted to wait for the right buyer. I was not trying to be a jerk. Only offering and suggesting that the price should be lowered to facilitate a quick sale.

The in/out trade Matt is talking about allows you to trade a car in and receive full credit towards taxes. Basically the dealership takes the trade and immediately sells it to your buyer at your negociated price. The dealer handles the paper work for a fee. Usually on a high end car the fee is waived. When I traded the 545i and Elise on the 911 the dealer waived the fee for my buddy buying the Elise.

PS - Don't let Joe drive it he is a poser and will never pull the trigger on anything.
