Thread: Wa wa wa wa wa wa wa?

  1. #1

Question Wa wa wa wa wa wa wa?

Took my sister to the airport yesterday so I have her 2007 4Runner for the weekend.

Running down the freeway it makes a Wa wa wa wa wa wa wa sound. WTF is causing that noise?

Jacked up the front and front wheel bearing seem fine. No damage on any of the rims and the tires are fair and all seem to be worn about the same.

    Bad tire?

    Baby in the back seat??

My brother in laws car sounds like that, it's his crappy tires, but that's a very familiar tire sound though so I dont' know if it would apply here.

She has no kids and her dog is at my parents.

    I'm also thinking tires.

Look closely at the tires, I'm betting they are cupping, it doesn't take much on those big tires to make that sound.

Be a nice brother and buy her a brand new set.

Tires, check the sidewall and see if the edges are even. I bought a set of used RX-8 tires that had a "sawblade" appearance with every other treadblock on the shoulder being taller. It caused a loud humming noise.

    Beat me to it.

Had my girls corolla doing the same thing last week and took it to Republic tire in Euless. They put it up on the rack and found the left rear tire had a high spot in the middle of the tread. It was barely visible when spinning, but replaced that tire and the noise is gone.

Just up your life insurance coverage on her and leave the tires as-is.

Do some smokey burnouts and even the tires up. OR autocross at TMS.

Rotate them and see if the sound changes or moves.

    Sharpie was correct!

Driver side rear tire has some funky cupping on the inside edge of the tire. I bet it is the Wa wa wa wa wa tire!

So the question is what suspension component is worn out causing the tire to wear incorrectly.

I'd bet under inflated tires since none of them had more than about 20-25 psi in them yesterday.

There's a first for everything. I can't wait to show this to my wife, maybe she'll say it for once too.
