Default The daily thread - 25 January, 2010

So, this is an idea I’ve seen on another forum I frequent, and it’s kind of fun. Every day, someone starts “the daily thread”, which is just a place where you can discuss whatever comes to mind that may not be big enough to devote an entire thread to on it’s own. It’s also just a place for everyone to chime in with whatever is on their mind today.

Call it a daily stream of consciousness for the forum. Thread drift is encouraged (not that it’ll be a problem around here, right?).

So here it is – the daily thread, 25 January 2010 Edition! have at it!

So for the last couple of days I’ve been listening to the debut album from Them Crooked Vultures. If you haven’t heard of them, don’t be surprised – I hadn’t either, until a friend recommended it to me. The group is made up of Dave Grohl from Nirvana & The Foo Fighters, John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin, and John Homme from Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal.

It’s a trip. Lots of different genres, lots of out there stuff. Nice bluesy, barstool-breakin’ rock & roll in a lot of tracks (New Fang, No One Loves Me & Neither Do I). Not all of it is good, but some of it is great. Give it a listen if you get a chance.

I'm listening to Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - N DIS LIFE right now. If you have never heard Iz, check him out on You Tube. Life would be terrible without music (and Miatas).

On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

Beautiful song but man, he makes that guitar look small.

It's a tenor ukulele. But I'm sure you knew that, Mr. Wisenheimer.

He died in 1999. At the time he needed a fork lift to get his 750 lbs on the stage. But, man, he could sing.

Israel Kamakawiwo'ole "Iz" also did "Over the Rainbow" for the movie 50 First Dates...he had a beautiful voice for sure!

I am still trying to learn Iz's Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World on the Uke. BTW Etta James turned 72 today.

I played this CD so much my wife hid it from me. I now have my Son-In-Law hooked on it.
