Thought I'd give a nice recommendation to a little book called Go Like Hell by A.J. Baime. It covers the rise of the Cobra and GT40 programs (mostly the GT40), along with the rivalry between Ford (and Shelby) and Ferrari. Lots of good background dating back into the 50s, and lots of focus on LeMans. Very good stuff for car dorks...

If you like that you'll enjoy The Last Open Road series by B.S. Levy. I've read all 4 and hadn't picked up a book in years before that.

Wait...there's four? I've read the first two..I didn't know there were more. Great books. I'll be searching for the other two now.

There's also Pot side companion which I haven't read yet. It's short stories that are more about Levy, but lets you see how Buddy relates to his real life. The 5th book has been rumored to come out, but not yet.

BTW, Burt came to dinner with dfwmiata in Denton when FM brought their Sevens to Eagle Canyon for comparison with an Ariel Atom. Burt wrote up the experience for Grass Roots Motorsports. Keith Tanner's homebuilt Seven was faster than the Atom!
And right after that I started reading the books. My dad already had them.
