Thread: Tire inflator

    Default Tire inflator

well, I have a 20% off harbor freight coupon begging to be used, and I'm sick of going to the gas station every other week to inflate my lancer, my miata, sara's mazda 3, and my sister's accent.... so I want to get an innexpensive compressor for inflating tires. Harbor freight has a few, but I don't know squat. I'd love an A/C version, but all the innexpensive ones seem to run on a car D/C plug....

    Suggestions?

Those little 12V ones are good for small volumes like bike tires (although for a road bike, you need 120 psi) and for topping up/checking pressure on car tires. If you are actually putting in a lot of air, you would be better served to get something with a tank on it. No need to go overboard and get a refigerator-sized tank, just a reservoir so that you're not working directly from the pump.

Spend a little more...the 12v ones take forever to add large volumes of air.

I have a Campbell Hausfeld cordless model that has been working for light fillups of my Miata tires for a couple of years now. I carry it on long trips in case I need to fill the tire on the road. It has a 120vac and 12dc for charging it and aslo has an accessory 12v outlet as well for running other small items from the battery.

It cost me $35 from Home Depot when I purchased it. Looks like they have gone up a little, but still worth it IMHO.

thanks for the link! that helps alot.

Now that the brain is kicking into gear, I have a small compressor that I use for airbrushing.... it is this model, or one very similar. Could i just buy an air hose and an inflator like this and use that to air tires?

I would go for one with a tank. 3 gallon is nice for light work and tire inflation if you are not in a hurry.

I have a 2 gallon 120v electric that was around $100 when I bought it. They have come down a lot since then. Even so, it has been very useful and worth the money. get a 25ft hose, they are cheap, and beats dragging the compressor around the car.
