I got into the office about 9:30 this morning. GISD cancelled classes for the day, so Mel is at home and I took her CR-V. The roads were fine - they were wet, but I didn't have any trouble getting to work. I did see several cars in the ditch on Brand, though.

Hardly anyone made it in today and my boss is out of town, so I plan on going home around 3.

I had to leave my car on the street last night since I couldn't get up the driveway. Well I got halfway up but didn't think I should block the family truckster. This morning the streets were amazingly quiet. Lots of people came to work today, and we got a free lunch. That was a nice surprise.

We lost a branch on the oak tree in the front yard

Our black cat was freaking out when the snow was coming down yesterday. He was watching out the patio door and his tail was all fluffed up. He was funny looking!

    Default Snow day my

I've been at work all day, came home to shovel the driveways before supper so I can go back at 700 tonight. Might have to work tomorrow too.

OG&E already has a bunch of crews down here and several other companies are on the way.

Lots of trees down in the hood, but we've been lucky at Casa Thing.

Stay warm, hope your lights are on, and stay out from under the trees.

Well, I'm a little tardy adding to this, but its been a crazy couple of days. Got home thursday afternoon to 7 inches in the driveway and alley, so immediately began shoveling out the driveway and alley right in front of the drive, since my time living in Baltimore and St. Louis taught me about re-freezing. I have a 3 car drive, and my 92 Chevy p/u and Yaris had been sitting under the Live Oak tree that covers 2/3 of the drive all day. Decided to put the Yaris and wife's Accord under the tree and the p/u in the snowy spot. All the while, the snow just kept coming, so I started getting a premonition about the tree and moved everything out from under it and into the empty driveway across the alley (neighbor passed away, house hasn't sold), which involved another hour of shoveling to get that driveway clear. Not 5 minutes after I got the cars situated, a massive branch collapses right onto the Yaris' normal spot. Shortly there after, I start hearing tree limbs all over the neighborhood, and saw several transformer's blow. We have one other live oak that overhangs the kitchen, so I got my pole saw, attached a big rake to it with zip ties, got on the roof and knocked snow off the branches until most of the tree over the house was no longer weighed-down. So, the house and cars are safe.

Got in my 2wd, 5spd manual 1/2 ton chevy and tried to go to the nearby ACE hardware store, and couldn't get up the alley without sliding, so I dropped the tires to 10 psi and presto, traction! Drove down, picked up 5-60lb bags of quickcrete, put them over the axle, and my truck was cruising all over Desoto like it had 4wd and snow tires! Grabbed the tow strap and pulled 6 neighbors out off alleys and intersections. Went home and called it a day.

Woke up Friday, no work (DISD), so threw on snow pants and ski jacket and went out to survey the damage and check the roads. Sure enough, a Lexus was stuck in the midle of the street only a block from my house. Offered to tug him out, put the strap on my truck and had his buddy hook-op the lexus, and got him back to straight in no time. I walked around back, and told him to back up so I could free the strap from under my bumper. Now, I know better than to trust a stranger, or to work without gloves, but I didn't follow the rules. As I reach down to unhook the strap, this guy decides he doesn't want to stay under the tree that is dropping snow on his lexus, so he starts moving without telling me, which pulls the strap tight and pinches my hand between the frame and tow hook. The last inch of my thumb is nearly severed when I get it free.

Anyway, after the craziest drive I've ever done in snow (or dry!), and 10 hours in the emergency room/surgery, I have 21 stitches, no thumbnail, a crushed bone and lots of vicoden! No good deed goes unpunished.

Moral of the story, STAY HOME!! :) Now, how do I autoX with one good hand...

That dude in the Lexus better send you a cookie bouquet for every major and minor holiday, pay for your refills on your pain meds for the next year, and give you a coupon for a hand job from his lady/hot cousin/brother Bobby in a tight fitting dress (to be used when you are on less vicoden) to make up for this dumb-butt move. Sure you broke a rule by just being in a hurry, but what moron moves a car when someone is hooking/unhooking it? The guy who helped him no less. Stupidity never ceases to surprise.

THX. :) I feel better in the moral-victory department. It looks like the thumb will recover pretty well (considering), so I'm chalking it up to an expensive lesson. Be careful out there!

Do you have information on the Lexus? Don't be surprised if your insurance company asks for it to go after him. I have had past trips to the ER result in the insurance company asking questions on where the accident happen, attempting to find another person or insurance to recover their money from.

That is a WOW story. For what it's worth you are a better man than me. I did not help anyone.
I hope your recovery will be quick and complete. You are also wise about moving the cars...

I spent the snow day driving around taking pics and doing donuts in the FB of Doom. :)

Hello world! After 82 hours without power we are back on the grid. It was a balmy 50 in the house last night.
