Thread: MSM Totaled

    Default MSM Totaled

I have not been on here lately due to being insanely busy and stressed out. Part of that is due to the fact that I got in an accident. Single vehicle, ~20MPH, hydroplaned into a lightpole. Struck driver's side, in front of the door, behind the wheel. I am 100% fine. I do have a lot to learn about skid control; the best I was able to do was keep it out of traffic. It occured on the 820 Westbound exit for Jacksboro Highway, at the bottom of the 270 where the pavement transitions.

Vehicle was determined a total loss yesterday. I have retained the vehicle, and am now trying to decide how to disposition the vehicle. Actual damage seems to be minor; the total was caused by one of the light pole's bolts tearing 5 subframe panels under the car. All are actually minor tears.

I have 3 options at this point:

    Part it out.
    Rebuild it.
Transfer all the goodies into an NA or NB.

    Thoughts?

Glad you are OK sorry about the car.

I'm not sure what I'd do if I were you maybe part it out.

How about some pics, It may be repairable.

Decided to either part it out or sell it as a unit. Watch for a thread regarding that.

I will, however, show the vehicle to anyone interested in it as a whole or any major assemblies (Engine/Tranny, RearEnd/Driveshaft, Interior, Top, etc). I would rather not go through the hassle of selling it in tiny pieces, even though I COULD make more money.

That suck, glad you're okay! With all the plans you had, it'd be sweet to put into an 95' or older chasis and not have to worry about OBDII. Good luck.

You should let Rogue look at it before parting it out or selling it.

Hmm, what all would you need for an engine to be transferred from an MS Miata to a '96. I could use the power...

I have seen at least one kit-car that's based on Miata running gear and suspension (I believe it looks like an MG-TD). Maybe not how you wished to spend your money. Like the other posts, the main thing is you walked away.

After looking at it, it certainely is repairable. I think that, for me, it is time to walk away and take a breather, however. I have a fun little commuter currently, so that should keep me happy for a bit.

Rogue, if you want to come by and take a look, that would be cool.

It still starts up and purrs like a kitten.

I will reiterate, if anyone wants to come by and take a look at the vehicle in the interest of purchasing major assemblies or the whole thing, let me know. There is very little that will not be available at this point.

Sorry to hear about your car but glad you are ok. My 90' got totalled last year from a simple rear end hit..bent the frame and the insurance co said.." too bad so sad..it's totalled!"

I'm honestly not sure. I would appreciate a more knowledgeable person's assitance regarding that.

If I added up all the parts (recent eBay/forum prices):

    Engine + Transmission + ECU + Harness + DP $5500
    Exhaust $100
    Rear Subframe + Driveshaft $1000
    Interior $???
    Top $???
    F/R Bumpers $???
Wheels\Tires $800 (1 broken but tire looks fine; $330 replacement)
    Misc $???
    Total ~$8000 + Top + Interior

Drop some off for taking the whole thing off my hands.

None of that is quoting a for sure price, more of a thinking out loud. Thoughts?

    Holy crap...

I thought $5500 was high for an Engine + Tranny + ECU + DP + MidPipe + Intake Tract + Harness + Cluster.

But the one listed on eBay already sold at that price, and that was without the MidPipe + Cluster.

If you decide to part out, I am very interested in the front bumper cover and lights.
