Nah go ahead an use em you will be fine...... (Evil Laugh )
I just checked Mazdaspeed...a set of OEM front/rear control-arm bushings are around $350!
Flyin' Miata has front/rear poly bushings for around $220 total -

I'm going to take a wild guess that poly bushings aren't legal in stock class?

Yeah... I freaked out when I went to buy mine, so limited my purchase to the front lower bushings, lower ball joints, tie rod ends, alignment bolts, and new castle nuts and pins (all from Mazdaspeed). I then got new front upper bushings from BR, as he had bought new upper control arms that came with bushings but had popped them out to put poly bushings in. I now need to order some new upper ball joint boots as they got mangled when I popped the uprights off of them. I will deal with the rear bushings some other year.
If you're just planning on doing local events I would just go ahead and do them. As long as you tell you competitors I doubt anyone would mind...
Yeah. I was going to replace mine when I did my shocks..... not so sure anymore...

I haven't pulled the trigger on that project yet, but when I do I will probably go here: http://www.energysuspensionparts.com...Mazda+MX5+1995

I had Energy Suspension bushings in my Corvette for less than 90 days & then I replaced those with OEM parts.
The Energy Suspension stuff rode rougher and squeaked constantly...
Poly bushings move differently than rubber ones, allowing less deflection and no pre-loading. This means more precise and consistent handling, with a slight increase in sharp impacts.
I have Energy Suspension bushings in my Escort.
They ride rough and squeak constantly....I love them.
On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

It's hard to imagine that 15 year-old bushings (in my case) would be softer (or ride smoother) than new poly ones. Stupid autocross.
so... are the energy ones at 949 the same as the ones on flying miata?

Yes, same set from each vendor.
Apparently FM checks the kit contents for accuracy. Keith says ES can be bad about mispacking the sets from time to time. For reference, see post 7 here.
Don't know if the cats at 949 have seen the same issue.

2008.5 CWP MS3: JBR 70d trilogy engine mounts, short throw shifter & shift plate bushings; AST 4100 w/ 400lb springs f/r; JRZ camber plates
From looking around the web it seems as if everybody is drilling and tapping the control arms for zerk fittings when installing ES bushings. Still, doesn't seem too bad. I like the sound of the Delrin bushings at $650.00!!

what is the benefit of drilling and tapping?

To install a grease fittings so you can stop the squeaking.
