Probably too late, but if you are so inclined...NASA employees are trying to stay optimistic that the "Administration" will realize it made a bad decision and reinstate the program that was to follow the Shuttle program. NASA Houston will probably be turned in to a museum.

Where does a former NASA Mission Control employee find a job? From rocket science --> teaching community college?? 4000 (Texas) NASA employees (Houston we have a problem) will find themselves jobless after September...plus countless more in Florida...going private when it's not a profitable endeavour doesn't offer much hope.

all the nasa guys will have a way easier time finding a job in the private sector then any one else that is getting laid off.

Unfortunately, we'll see soon enough if that's true. Otherwise, if you want to live close to a space museum, you'll probably find a lot of foreclosed housing to bid on.

Even if they do close the manned spaceflight program, I doubt they'll close Mission Control, the research facilities, and the Johnson Space Museum. Since the land was originally donated in the early 60's by Rice University for as long as the center hosted manned spaceflight, some of the facilities and land may return to the university, unless Rice signed it all over completely to NASA later on.

I'm surprised Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin haven't been all over the news shouting about this. Both are ardent proponents of manned space exploration, Armstrong especially.

Nope. No more Mission Control. This coming from Mission Control. He said that it will most likely become a museum. The surrounding neighborhoods & businesses will most likely turn in to ghost towns. They have already been told (warned?). I too am amazed that there hasn't been more mention of this in the news. There are other projects - but the manned flights will end with the last Discovery mission in September.

I have to agree. I've worked with a couple of ex-rocket scientists. Engineering is engineering.
