    Default rear view mirror install

    NA

co-driver knocked the rear view mirror off on Sunday

hit a cone and threw his hands up in dismay and hit it

I see the circlip thingy behind the white plastic part and the matching stud on the mirror itself, but can't hold my mouth right enough to push the mirror into place

do you have to remove the two screws and then drill two holes in the cover to reinstall the screws?

    what am I missing?

Yes, remove the two screws, remove the black plastic cover off the mirror. Place the clip in/on the mirror and install the screws. Replace the cover.

    Shouldn't this be Bob's problem?

That's pretty funny, though. Good thing he didn't DNF.

I took the cover off the mirror but can't see how to get the clip over the stud

the white plastic thing keeps the clip from spreading enough

do I just need to use more force? any other trick?

    Pictorial.

Assuming this is where you're at:

    Remove the white piece:

    Remove screw from mirror mount:

Lay white thing, with clip, on mirror mount (it's actually on the wrong way in this pic...there are little grooves you need to line up so it lays flat):

Screw large screw through clip and white thing, into mirror base:

Screw 2x screws through white thing into windshield frame:

Clip mirror base cover over white thing:

    Fin:

    thanks

I was missing taking the stud off the mirror but I finally got the stud loosened and out

had to find my 1970s hand held impact phillips screwdriver thingie

clip doesn't sit in as nicely as yours so it will likely fall off again

Yeah, that large screw is a bitch to get out the first time. I stripped a few when I was doing my mirror mod. Speaking of which, I am fairly sure I have a few bases and clips left over from my experiments if you end up needing something down the road.

I might still have them on my computer. I'll check later tonight, or tomorrow morning.
