    Default Recommendation for home windows/installer

I'm looking to replace the 1956 year model windows in my house this month, so I was wondering if anyone else has done this recently. What windows did you use? Did you find a good installer?

We replaced all of our windows (panes only...kept the aluminum frames) 3-4 years ago. We went with the low-E coated windows and they make a huge difference!

We used - http://www.lanhamwindow.com - Family run business, no complaints.

Chris did an awesome job getting the windows I wanted. After talking to so many different salesmen that were pushy and couldn't give me the windows I wanted, Chris came through with the right windows with absolutely no pressure to buy. He even did some research for me on a specialty window for noise insulation for a window that got the evening sun. I couldn't be more pleased with the professionalism and the price.

Just had six vinyl windows put in my 1968 Fox and Jacobs........looked at Clear Choice, Window World and Champion (listed in order of price, lowest to highest). All of them seemed pretty comparable in build quality. Window World and Champion had showrooms and multiple employees. Clear Choice is owned by one man, he has two installers. Billy installed my windows, do not let him near your house. Heath is the other installer and the owner stepped up and sent Heath out to correct some issues. In Billys defense he would probably be OK doing a job removing aluminum windows and putting in the new vinyl ones but he hacked up my wood window frames pretty good..........

That's terrible - that was one of my biggest fears. It was an investment and I didn't want to screw it up. Adams Exteriors was referred to me by a friend who just had their windows done, and I like that he's still around and he remembers me (I called Chris before making the recommendation). Rick, now that you have a house, two good resources to have are

    1) Adam the Answer Man (for parts and help with diy projects)
    2) Angie's List (when you need to call a pro - it's a great wealth of info but you have to pay for it)
