Thread: Leaky POSIV........

Default Leaky POSIV........ (How to use a Coolant Pressure Tester)

At the last SCCA Event Onething told me he smelt coolant but I didn't so we ran the event with few issues.

Today I changed the plugs on the car and took it for a spirited test drive. When I got home the aroma of coolant was noticeable. Looked around didn't see anything other than a quarter sized drip of coolant on the garage floor........

Figured I better figure this problem out quick before I blew a hose at speed and baked a motor.

So off to Autozone to rent a Coolant Pressure Tester w/Adapters.

Let the car sit to cool off and then I tested the system. Here is what I found......

Read the instructions that come with the tester yadda yadda yadda......

First you need to open the hood and locate the Radiator!

Then open the cap (Remember I let the car sit a few hours so everything is cool)

Install the adapter that comes with the pressure gauge.

Next install the pressure unit and gauge!

Presure up the system with the air pump.

Uh oh the gauge is dropping so the system has a leak....

Looked around and saw I had coolant on the back side of the motor....

Little more searching and look what I found...... See the stream of coolant....

It is the damn little hose from the oil cooler to the back of the motor well at least I know the source of the leak.

Do you have to pull the engine for that?

A common problem on cheater engines.

I got a complete set from Rosenthal and changed them all at the same time.......except those two which are still in the plastic. I wonder why that is?

    Because they are not leaking???

I replaced evey hose on the motor except for the one that is now leaking. Some how it never showed up when I was ordering all my bits and pieces. Didn't figure it would be a problem...

    A little....

It did run for more than 10,000 miles and has been over a year since I installed the "cheater motor®" before this hose let go....
