You have data you need recovered or is it backed-up somewhere? How old is the PC?
One of our computers here at the world headquarters has decided to turn into a turd today.
Tried to restore it back to a good known configuration and now it is worse.
Black screen with a cursor.
Any decent place on the west-side where I can take this thing to get it resurrected?
TIA??

I got it to run in safe mode and Sr. is copying the data out of this one over to one of the other computers on the network.
Let me go in his office and see what exactly that computer is I know we have had it for a couple of years (it is our newest computer).
It is an HP Pavilion A6009n desktop PC.
Since it came up in Safe Mode, it could just be a faulty video card. If you have a compatible card to borrow from another PC, that would be a quick test.
It was working but all the network stuff had quit so we attempted to restore to a point last week which is when we got the black screen with a cursor.
I have no desire to screw it up worse than I already have...
What I need is someone with some skilz to lay hands on it and fix it for us.
So anyone know of anyone who could help me with this problem on the west-side?
I know a top-notch guy, but he's way up in Anna.
On a side note, once you get it fixed, be sure to install the BSOD screensaver to mess with Sr.:

Finally gave up took it to CompUSA in Euless gave them $129.00 and less than 24 hours later it is back up and running!
What did they do for $129? What was the problem?
They say a virus affected the startup which caused it not to load everything it needed to run properly.
Yea they started to talk about some software I needed to buy to better protect our computers and I lost interest and the theme to Green Acres started to play in my head.
In hindsight I should have paid more attention.
What do you cool kids run for Antivirus Software? We had Microsoft One (But it is about to expire and Microsoft has dropped it)
AVG Free and Avira provide adequate protection. Norton has proven to be the best at zero-day exploits, even though it only catches only 20% of them. (everyone else's software gets 2% or less. (Referring to a report done by Secunia)) Norton is also a great system hog though. When I do use Windows I generally just use AVG, ZoneAlarm firewall, and Malwarebytes anti-malware. (All free too!)

+1 for AVG Free (and quit surfing pr0n on company PC's)
I've switched to Avast since AVG has gotten very bloated. Norton sucks too since it uses 100% of the CPU at all times. Stop using IE (use Chrome or Firefox). Stop using Outlook Express. Stop using AOL instant messenger or Yahoo Instant Messenger (use digsby) since there's lots of IM spam.
BTW this is what they were recommending for $79.99. I had never heard of it but I am not a computer guy. Figured I'd ask you guys since some of you seem to know stuff!
