You are allergic to the vicoden. My wife and her brother are as well. You need to contact your doctor and get a different prescription.
So yesterday I got my wisdom teeth out and they gave me vicodin to take after the surgery. Yes, I know, yipee!!! Which is what I thought as well! But unfortunately it has been making me sicker than the actual surgery!I started out taking two pills, dropped down to one and now I am only taking half of a pill but I am still dizzy to the point that it's dangerous for me to stand. Does anyone know anything that will help the dizziness and the vomiting??

Eat 3 or 4 ibuprofen instead.
Alright y'all! Thank you for the help! Will call the doctor ASAP to see if he can fax a different prescription or tell me what to do.

+1 on the 3 or 4 ibuprofen... works well.
DO NOT take 3 or 4 Tylenol or other acetaminophen containing drugs as they can be VERY hard on the liver.

Lightness? What's that? I drive a PRHT!
Definitely contact your doc. Goofy is totally right, you are having a reaction to an allergy. It may not be to the stronger pain med, as the hydrocodone and vicodin are the same... except for the acetaminophen that is added into the brand vidodin, and it is likely either than, or the combo that you are reacting to. There are a ton of other meds, but a good choice would be to switch to a prescription strength ibuprofen. 800mg is pretty common for teeth, I've seen some people end up with 1200s, but that's likely overkill for what you are dealing with, especially with it not being "day of".

You guys just taking 3-4 ibuprofen must be lightweights. When I took out my knee a couple summers ago, without the help of a big hydrocodone there was no way I was doing anything. Not that a big hydrocodone allowed me to do anything either, but at least I was in a haze instead of a pain filled rage-a-thon.
Of course, I've not had my wisdom teeth out so maybe the pain is less?
it's all physiology... meds work differently chemically on different people, even at high strengths. Hydrocodone (or even brand) does very little at all to me, they kept throwing them at my when I had kidney stones and they never did a damn thing. -But it's funny there is a lower class (weaker drug) pain killer called Toradol that may as well be magic dust for me. One of those and the pain was totally eliminated. At first the doc was like... really? Then he just mentioned that for some people it take the edge off while they test, and before they go on to a full prescription, but with me it was the answer.
I can take 3 or 4 ibuprofen, or even one or two large ones and it does very little for pain... but I do have an allergic reaction. It's becoming slightly more common, but for years, doctors have said it's not only very unlikely, but it's almost certainly something else. After a few people died under some conditions, it's taken on a more... "well, maybe. just take something else to be safe" kind of approach. Basically, I just get giant itchy swollen spots all over my scalp and stuff. Took me forever to link it to Advil, and generic ibuprofen. My doctor said "oh, that's odd... never heard of it." Take something else for headaches I suppose.

Depending on the strength - two seems like a lot to take at once...I've had various strengths for various reasons and never has the label said to take more than one - usually it is recommended to take half and increase dosage if needed...I hope you feel better soon and took the advice given here and called your doctor.
"Overdose symptoms may include extreme drowsiness, sweating, pinpoint pupils, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), confusion, cold and clammy skin, muscle weakness, fainting, weak pulse, slow heart rate, coma, blue lips, shallow breathing, or no breathing."
Vicodin is hydrocodone. Just like Tylenol is acetaminophen and Advil is ibuprofen. Vicodin is the brand name and hydrocodone is the generic name for the same drug. Vicodin may have some acetaminophen mixed in with the hydrocodone. Other brand names for hydrocodone are Anexsia, Dolorex, Hycet, Liquicet, Lortab, Maxidone, Norco, Polygesic, Stagesic, Xodol, and Zydone.
I've been perscribed hydrocodone several times but didn't use it or need it.

i thought this would be extremely funny to watch on hydro...
LOL, this thread was rated 1 star....someone didn't like it too much. :P
So I'm pretty sure that they just had me on too high of a dose too often. Stayed with the half a pill but only took another after 8 hours. Feeling fine now!! Thank you all very much for the concern and the advice!!! I should be back to my normal self within the next few days!!
