    Default Torchy's Tacos

One of my favorite places to eat in Austin is coming to Dallas. Tomorrow Torchy's Tacos opens its first Dallas location, and I am freakin' stoked. I hope they have Dublin Dr Pepper in the soda fountain like the Austin locations do.

Anyway, thought I'd pass it along.

Damn... that menu could have what it takes to kill my diet! I wonder if the parking lot could handle us on a Wednesday night?

Yeah, I wonder about the GTG potential too.

OK, did some recon work for everyone.

From Left to right: the Trailer Park, Green Chili Pork Taco, The Republican, and the taco of the month, the DAMN BP (gulf shrimp fish taco style with chipotle sauce).

The guys I went with thought it was overpriced, but we all agreed the food was tasty. My personal opinion, I got the Damn BP and it was awesome. $5 is alot for one taco, but they donate $1 to the cleanup effort with it so it's really $4 I guess. I thought the price was on par with the area (porsches in parking lot), and expected it to be expensive, the other guys must have thought they were getting a meal for $3.50 I guess, haha.

Prices are cheap for one taco, but you probably need at least two so double whatever price on the menu, and sides and drinks are extra.

Lunch size tables, no comfy dinner booths. Definitley and Austin type place, food was fresh and all made in house, staff had a bunch of tats.

Parking lot is big enough for a meet, but probably depends on how busy the area is, it's in a corner office space in a huge shopping center, not a stand alone restaurant. You might piss off some of the other businesses with 30+ buzzing miatas outside

I would definitely go back, but maybe not for lunch, little too pricey for lunch.

And oh yes, Dublin Dr Pepper on tap.

Damn! The "Double Wide" looks ridiculous... in a good way.

I think that shopping center clears out quite a bit after normal business hours - the main occupants are a Tom Thumb and a bank. But it is smack in the middle of Uptight White North Dallas, so the rent-a-cop in his golf cart might be a pain in the ass if we tried a GTG there.

The Double Wide rocks. It was the first taco I ever tried there.

It's not exactly cheap, but really, there aren't that many places where I can fill up for less than $10 anyway, so their prices don't seem out of line to me. I'd spend the same at Chipotle or Whataburger as I would at Torchy's.

Speaking of food, have y'all heard that In-N-Out is coming to Dallas too?

Went for lunch, thought it was good, not anything special. Pricey for lunch, two tacos and a drink for almost $10. I talked to the manager, he said he did not think it would be a problem having a GTG there. They do not serve alcohol since they are in a dry area of Dallas.

I think BJ and I may stop by there tonight for a taco and then head over to Kellers for a beer.

I got my fix today at lunch. The green chile pork taco is my favorite, and they're just as good up here as the ones down in Austin. May not be for everybody, but I sure love the place.

It's not Torchy's but I have another recommendation for West Siders (since Torchy's is a haul for a meal). Salsa Fuego Fresh Tex Mex, just north of the Benbrook Traffic Circle. It's what I would call "gourmet Tex Mex" (for instance, they use custom sauces, salmon, feta cheese, and shrimp, as well as the expected ingredients) and it's fantastic. The place is a former KFC (a long time ago) so it's not big and doesn't look fancy outside, but there's table service and the owner/chef will take your order and be happy to prepare any special requests. I HIGHLY recommend the place for lunch or dinner.

Dudley- Thanks for pointing this place out to us... Torchy's is now my new favorite indulgence! I tried the green chile pork and a Brushfire last night and they both were excellent.

Oh man. The Taco of the Month is the Ace of Spades. This is the BEST taco I have EVER eaten. 8" flour tortilla, jalapeno sausage, brisket, fried egg, cheese, queso, sour cream and diablo sauce. You only need to order this one.

not even in the same league. Mariana's is good in it's own way, but Torchy's is on a whole different level of decadence.
