Default MX5 Cup Car coming to iRacing in November

For those of you that do the simulation thing, the MX5 Cup Car is coming to iRacing.com! If you don't know what iRacing is, it's hands down the best racing simulation I've ever driven. Blows Forza and Gran Turismo out of the water. The downside is that (1) you have to have a subscription, and (2) you have to buy content such as cars and tracks. It's kind of pricey if you do it all at once, but it's not so bad if you spread it out over time.

Cars and tracks are laser scanned and incredibly accurate. Cars include: Pontiac Solstice, Spec Racer Ford, Skip Barber Formula Car, Jetta TDI Cupcar, Star Mazda, Radical SR8, Mustang GT, Australian V8 Supercar (Falcon), Corvette C6R GT1, Daytona Prototype, Indy Car, '79 Lotus. F1 is on the way as well. Tracks include: Laguna Seca, Road America, Road Atlanta, VIR, Watkins Glen, Barber Motorsports Park, Sebring, Lime Rock, Brands Hatch, Zandvoort, Homestead Miama, Daytona, Infineon, Mosport, Phillip Island, Silverstone, Summit Point, and Mid Ohio.

They also do that thing where you only turn left. Lots of tracks and cars for that as well but I've never messed with it.

Recently they've added new features including the ability to setup private races... we could setup a DFW Miata Cup series...

Iracing just released this preview of the new MX-5 coming in a few weeks. Looks like it is going to be a fun car to drive.

Between this and the need to cut hd video I may have to get a new comp before spring. I'm guessing that shot of all the white cup cars is early on in the series before you earn sponsors right? Doesn't iracing keep a log of your wins, sponsors, mods, etc.?

Iracing does keep stats on all of your races, but you get to paint the car and put logos on from day one. I don't know why they were running all white, since the car is not released yet I am guessing it is developers just playing around. There are no mods in Iracing, just the real life setup options that the teams have. And they become more sophisticated as you move up the level of cars. For example the Solstice that the MX-5 is replacing you can only change tire pressure. The Indycar however you pretty much need to be an engineer because the options are so plentiful. If you are on the fence keep an eye out on their main page. They run deals all the time, for cheap into rates.

It is worth it to throw 5 bucks at it and try it a month to see if you like it. They don't do free trials anymore, because they did it once and ofcourse a ton of people signed up and caused havoc. Like you mentions Iracing keeps track of your stats including incidents and that is how it determines your license level. It isn't fun for someone on a second account that was free to come in and wreck you. So they atleast charge someone when they run promos.

I gotta try this sometime. I've been playing around on NFS:Shift which is extremely realistic once you turn off the brake and steering assist. The reason I bought that game is for the MX-5
NFS allows all kinds of different adjustments down to alignment, which can get interesting.
I wish there was a game like this that would actually push my gaming system lol.

I might have to try iRacing with that buy 1 month get 2 free... what's their video driving school like?

If you think NFS is realistic, wait till you try iRacing... I've been playing a little rFactor recently too and it's just not quite as good in the physics department. Sure is fun to play with all the mods though...

I only had time to do a handful of laps last night. I had to go with Laguna Seca :) I think the car drives pretty well, but it feels faster than the cup cars I've actually driven.

I really like the new MX5. It drives the closest to my car of any on iRacing so I like that. Way better than the Rookie Solstice. I haven't bought the F1 car yet. Anyone driven it?

I agree, the MX5 Cup Car is great. The downside is that it is the Rookie car and they don't offer an advanced series. That means you can't do a full season in it. Sigh. I'm racing the Mustang instead.

I havn't purchased the F1 car. I really don't see myself racing it. I've got the Star Mazda, Indy Car, and Lotus and I just don't ever race them. I like sports cars over the open wheelers...

I'm still pretty new to iRacing. Just got my class D license. I'm usually running 1-2 seconds slower than the fastest guys. But after looking at some of their rigs in the "Show off your rig" thread of the forum I don't feel quite so bad. I'm running off my Macbook Pro running windows 7 in Bootcamp.

Eventually I'd like to upgrade to a 3 monitor setup. I drove a buddy's set up that had that and was immediately faster.

I haven't been to the track since I've been on iRacing but I'm going to ECR on the 18th so I'll see if it's made any difference.

Either way it's a lot of fun.

I use a Logitech Driving Force GT wheel, a $5 folding chair from Walgreens, a $20 end table from Ikea, and a 102" projection screen :). A three monitor setup would be the best way to go, but I don't have money for 3 monitors or space for them for that matter. I don't really have a computer desk/office to set one up...

I got the F1. It is amazing, but I doubt I will race it much. Maybe just in the fun series. I am off the pace enough as it is in the indycar. I am pretty decent in the Star Mazda, and that has full races very often so I'll stick with that. The new MX-5 is a ton of fun, but I really dont feel like going down to Rookie races for it.
