I've seen the 'maro at Nationals, but I have not seen the dune buggy. That rocks!
Saw this on another forum.
M3 is always the answer.

Take it to the beach on Saturday and autocross on Sunday.

Soooo... does that exhaust add high-speed stability?

The goofy looking exhaust, is just the way the header/muffler are bent for use on Type I motored cars (Beetle and Ghia for example)... this is the bend required for them to fit under the fenders and such. As for the motor, no it's not a Type IV (often just called a Porsche) motor, you can tell from the heads. The Type IV styled fan shroud was made available for the Type I engine, it gets mixed reviews from the VW community.
