Frustrating. This was a game I figured they would lose. Colby has been good but Garza is easily a number 2 in the rotation if not a 1a. I figured Colby would give up about 3 runs so when they had a chance to win the thing it just stunk.

I was at the game, Washington pulled O'Day after dramatically striking out the only batter he faced as 51,000 fans were chanting his name, and you pull him for Feliz? And why do you put in Holland in a one run playoff game? Or better yet, why is Holland on the playoff roster at all? Too many managerial mistakes cost ballgames...

P.S. Lewis was pulled one or two innings too early, and Wash burned the entire bullpen...

I would hardly credit Ron Washington with the Rangers recent success... Instead I would like to bring to attention that the Rangers have had the best farm system and scouts in the last five years that have blessed our team with a myriad of young talent. We have one of the best Presidents in Nolan Ryan and probably the best GM in Jon Daniels, who you can credit with many late season acquisitions, including most noticeably Cliff Lee. Without top tier pitching and hitting coaches in Mike Maddux and Clint Hurdle, especially Mike Maddux, we wouldn't be in the playoffs. And look at the talent throughout the entire organization that Washington has to work with. I believe with an above average manager the Rangers could have easily been a 100 win team this season...

What would that have done to the rotation once they made it to the league championship series? How many days off between the two series would there be and would that allow enough time for Lee and Wilson to rest and be able to start that series?

I think Warsh is a good motivator and he does do some good things, but I agree with your other post that the Rangers success might be more to do with just how much talent they have than Warsh's managerial skills. He really put them in a bind with the way he handled game 3. I thought he gave up on Lewis an inning too soon. I can't really blame him though for pulling him. That was an iffy situation. How wheels off was that ump calling game 3? That stirke zone was moving around more so than Shakira's hips. It affected both pitchers but I think Lewis a bit more because he isn't as much a power pitcher and depends on a lot of movement. But back to the crazy bull pen management. Even O'Day looked kind of shocked that Warsh was out there pulling him after one batter. He also just stretched Oliver too far. Yeah, they lost yesterday but at least Holland was able to settle down a bit and give the rest of the pen a rest.

I was reading about this the other day. The players share the revenue for the first three games only. That way there is no incentive to throw games.

It wouldn't have affected the rotation at all. Cliff would have pitched in Game 4 Sunday and had until the next Friday until Game 1 of the ALCS against the Yanks...

That's what I was unsure of, the starting time/day for the ALCS. I also read there was some concern about starting Lee on 3 days rest which he has never done before. Bottom line is, they are going to have to hit in this next game. Tampa is going to start Price and you have to figure he isn't having two bad home games in a row. Like you said, what's done is done. They need to go out and take care of business.

Exactly. I think if they can just shake off that whole momentum thing they'll be fine. Cliff already said that these are the situations he lives for, I'm not sure if David Price will be as comfortably in this situation. Regardless, we're gonna need to get some bats hot if we want to win!

Texas to turn to new play-by-play man in 2011

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rangers have signed television analyst Tom Grieve to a three-year contract extension and severed ties with play-by-play announcer Josh Lewin.

Grieve, a former Rangers general manager, has been in the booth since 1995, and will continue his analyst duties on Fox Sports Northwest and TXA21 through the 2013 season.

Lewin had been with the club since 2002.

"After several discussions over the last few months, the Texas Rangers and Josh Lewin have agreed to end their relationship and move ahead in different directions," team president Nolan Ryan said in a team release. "As a result, Josh will not be returning as the Rangers television announcer in 2011. We wish Josh the very best for the future."

The club will immediately begin its search for a play-by-play announcer to work with Grieve.

"I would like to thank the Rangers for nine wonderful years," said Lewin. "I respect the team's leadership and vision and wish them nothing but the best."

Eric Nadel, who has been in the organization for 32 years, is expected to remain on radio.

Most all professional athletes are way over paid....period. They are treated like royalty. If a team stands up to one, another team will come along and give them what they want. That's not to say owners, etc. aren't lining their pockets too.
