I had good results in my '91 switching from whatever the PO had in the car to Motul. I have some sitting in the garage for my '99 but I have not had a chance to swap oils yet... I'm surprised no one mentoined Motul in this thread. Have people moved on to better things?

Motul.
Wealth, power, and experience are apparently not enough to save us from social influences. Groupthink, as described by I.L.Janis, is the tendency for group members to reach a consensus opinion, even if that decision is downright stupid (Janis 1982).
I ran Motul in my 5-spd for 30k miles, and have it in the 6-spd currently. What is the issue?

Ya, am I not supposed to use Motul in my '99?

Motul (a GL5 oil) is good for the gears and bearings, but it's bad for the syncros and makes shifting unpleasant. Read this entire thread and you'll understand why you want a GL4 oil in your transmission. And the current leader in GL4 that's also good enough to protect your bearings and gears is Amsoil.
Interesting. TrackDog told me to buy Motul because it would smooth up shifting, and it did in my '91. That's why I bought it for my '99...

Now I'm more confused. I just pulled this off a website about Motul Gear 300:
API Standards: API GL-4/GL-5 OEM Approvals : MIL-L-2105D
So is it a GL-4 or a GL-5?

You guys can run whatever you want. I've managed to survive 3-years of tracking my turbo car and ~30k miles on the 6-speed from using GL-4 that sees 300*f on the track. I've had two 5-speeds that were "sticky" on downshifts on a couple gears and they ran M1 or something else. AMSoil MTG also looked great after 15-track days when I sent the oil analysis with no measurable shear. :)

mrbrg: Is the amsoil mtg recommended for the NC 5-speed? Or is it an entirely different tranny from the previous generations? I need to change my fluid soon and have the typical 1-2 notch.
I don't know but I assume it has brass synchros.

Wags - You replenished your oil supply yet?
I use to worry about money; but then realized I don't HAVE anything to worry about.
Pennzoil Synchromesh is the bomb!! Motul is not good for my 94 NA transmission. I was thinking it was time to replace the tranny, not anymore!!
