Thread: Hard Dog Door Bars

    Default Hard Dog Door Bars

Anybody ever use thes bolt-in door bars? Are they worthwhile? Do they stiffen the frame much, or are the bolt on frame rail stiffeners better?

My car exceeds my driving ability. That's the only possible explanation.

While I don't have them, I have heard several people with them compare their stiffening ability to that of the FM frame rails and butterfly brace. I have the frame rails and can confirm they do make a noticeable difference.

I've got them on my 90. I never tracked the car without them - had them put in when I did suspension and roll bar installsright when I got the car. The chassis seems plenty stiff with the roll bar and door bars installed. I'd say that based on the geometry involved that they'd do the same for stiffening that the frame rails do but for less weight (albeit higher and further outboard) - they make pretty big triangles from the B pillar up to the floor at the A pillar.

Let me help. I speak jeff_man.

He fabricated a set, using a set from an NA that he borrowed from his friend. He installed the set on his NB. They only fit because the car is stripped. He endorses the product and believes it is worth the money.

I figured that you would want to avoid the extra weight in DP.

Too bad this isn't NASCAR... He could save weight by only installing one side.

Turns out DP is not as light as it looks! Under current rules, my car would need to weigh 2073 lbs. (That is with a 75 lb penalty for wheels wider than 7"). Last time I weighed the car it was at 2025! Rule changes asr in the works that will lower the min. Weight for my car down to 1924 lbs, but that won't take effect until 2012. DP cars look all stripped out and light until you look at the passenger floorboard and see all the ballast plates!

Gary installed them in my 90 and the difference was obvious. Not a bad safety item either.
