+1. LOVE that he turned down NY. Part of me really wanted him to sign with the Rangers but I have to admit this is a very good turn of events for my A's. Rangers got worse. Angels got worse. A's got better. Now I am just hoping Beltre ends up with the A's (or in the NL) instead of the Rangers or Angels.
Just like everyone else said, at least it wasn't the Yankees. I don't understand though, the article says that they were heartbroken when they got traded last year to Seattle. Why go back to a team that just traded you away a year earlier? Maybe he has a clause.
He kind of alluded to that during the playoffs about how they just traded him away. It sure seemed as if he was kind of miffed at the Phillies over it all. I guess he got over that quick enough.
I'm disappointed/kind of relieved/scared all in one. Disappointed because the Rangers went forever without a legit ace on the staff. The influence he could have had on the current staff as well as younger pitchers coming up. Then, relieved that it is finally over with and they can just move on plus the whole Pay-Rod contract and what that did to the Rangers financiallyy over the past few years. And, scared that they will do some knee-jerk reaction and give away too much talent for Grienke or some other guy.
It would've been nice to have him back, but I think we can make it back to the playoffs without him. Plus, $20 mil/year is a lot of cheddar to tie up in a guy who will be 38 or 39 at the end of his contract. Hey, now we can make a run at somebody else before the trade deadline next season!
BTW, I'm not sure about Grienke. Talented? Yes. But apparently he's a head case...
I'm just glad the Yanks didn't get him either...![]()

I just saw on facebook where the Rangers are saying that they declined to go to a 7 year deal, and that if they would have he would have stayed here. I agree with Rick that it is a lot of money to pay an old guy here in a few years. It might even take the franchise out of the running for 5 years or so after that to rebuild. But would it have been worth it to win a ring or two the next 2-3 years? I guess that is a gamble Daniels didn't want to take.
