Thread: About to bite the bullet....?

Default About to bite the bullet....?

About to jump on one and i wanted to make sure it is a reasonable deal. Ive posted once before about a different car and the banter helped me ask the right questions and come to the correct conclusion to not buy. Ill start by describing it.

    Black 97 140k miles
Hardtop is perfect and soft top in great shape too
Timing belt and wp done two weeks ago by owner, wp is autozone pump though.
No seals etc were replaced to my knowledge
Radiator, belts, clutch flywl pplate throw out bearing done some what recently
Interior is pretty clean, has tan leather seats that replaced old black cloth, slight gash
in drivers bolster, pretty nice otherwise.
    AC and heater work well.

Exterior is a 6-7 out of 10. All is well except for a good size dent in the front of the front fender that leads to the front bumper and paint that is slightly dull looking on this front fender bumper and hood.
Body is strait with a good carfax.
Dent in frame rail from idiot jacking.
Steering wheel is just slightly off, pulls just barely. Needs alignment. Could be tire pressure related though
Tires are ok at two years old

    No major leaks
No smoke on start or ever
    Dead stock no mods

Car drives well, few interior rattles behind my head nothing major
    No suspension rattles or loosness
    Engine idles smooth and quiet
    Runs strong till redline
Engine bay isnt the cleanest but not oily or gross
Needs engine mounts likely. Can feel engine vibration some

My personal peaves are the dent and the miles although the car runs well. I liked the hardtop and the interior was respectable. Owners seem to have integrity and i trust them.
    They are asking 3800.

    What are your opinions?

Looks like a fair deal to me. The hardtop alone is worth $800-$1000.

Is it a base car, or does it have power windows, cruise, etc?

I don't know if you have already found this but they following are worth reading

    Buying a used Miata - http://www.miata.net/faq/usedmx5.html

Used Miata Inspection Checklist - http://www.miata.net/faq/inspection_list.html

If it was me I'd make an appointment with Stevan at Miata Solutions or Gary at Track Dog and get them to do an full inspection on the car since they have years of experience with Miatas.

It was actually suggested by one of Gary's mechanics that i buy the car.

I dont remember all the options, i want to ask about brakes and window motors, i forgot to check those.

Provided here are no major mechanical issues that haven't been discovered, it's a fair deal. The hardtop is worth $1000 cash all day long, so you're getting a decent 97 with average miles for $2800.

    +1
On the track, I am fearless.
If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.
