Default 13b Miata vs 6 speed miata

I can't decide which one would be better. I've seen alot of specs but still idk. Wandering if anyone here has tried a 13b before the look and sound amazing yet a six speed is very well rounded. What are yalls thoughts?

A six speed is just a transmission?? It creates no power it just transmits power.

How can you compare the two??

Here is one! A Platypus vs. Ironing Board

That's a tough one...you could probably iron shirts on a platypus if you had to.

But then they would smell like Platypus...and we all know how hard that is to get out. Ironing board could be used as a weapon!
Wealth, power, and experience are apparently not enough to save us from social influences. Groupthink, as described by I.L.Janis, is the tendency for group members to reach a consensus opinion, even if that decision is downright stupid (Janis 1982).

Don't underestimate the Platypus! Rumor has it the Military is working on a Platypus Weapon here is a very early prototype.

Ha I'm talking about the new Miata engines with the six speed and what you can do with them compared to the 13b rx7 in a Miata a early model.

The engine on a 6 speed tranny is the same as the engine on a 5 speed tranny. Swapping out the tranny for another does not add power. As for the 13b motor, why not just put a LS3 motor in the car. You'd be better off for performance, sound and fuel economy.

Are you asking what is better? As an engine conversion into an NA? The question doesn't seem very specific? 13b vs. the 2.0 in the NC? The 6 speed is really throwing me off? It has nothing to do with power, just personal preference.

Why I say six speed is bc it can handle more power than the five speed. The ls3 or ls1 conversion is alot more than the 13b I thought ?

Seems as if Jon-92 is the only one who knows what he is asking. As he mentioned earlier words are his nemesis.

    Lol good one...
Anyways, LS1s are laying around everywhere, popular engine conversion in the NA and NB. I'd imagine the durability of the LS series engines is a big part of that. If you want the 13b that much, just save up and get the RX, it's on the same platform as the miata, is seems like it would be a waste of money to convert one in a miata given other options.

Is there a term like "bench racing" but for hypothetical mods that will never happen?

So do an RX7 tranny swap to your car? I'm guessing you're not even boosted yet. Why are you concerned with breaking trannies already?

What are your end goals? That will dictate what you should do.

Since you're looking for our general thoughts on the rotary swap vs. dropping in a newer engine and 6-speed, here are mine:

The 13b swap will cost MUCH more. This applies to both the general install, getting things to fit & play nice together, fab work needed. You'll also need a fair amount of free time and $$. Feel free to reference this thread from another board on this general topic. Oh, and don't forget some sort of engine management to actually make the engine run in the Miata chassis.

1.8 with a 6-speed requires some light rewiring for, if I recall correctly, the back-up light sensor in the trans. If you don't already have a 1.8 in your '92, well, you can still use the 6-speed transmission without hassle. If you're looking to drop in a 1.8, your stock engine computer can run the basic functions without issue, though you will need a few bits & pieces to make certain parts fit with your car. Nothing major, though. Check out the pointy board here. You can also find related info in one of Keith Tanner's Miata-related books.

    Read & enjoy!
