What do ya'll think about replacing a 97' Civic hatchback that I love but has seen better days (but has had lots of maintenance) with this:

There are many different factors that are affecting my decision, but my brother is willing to sell this to me way below the asking price.

So do I keep my 35 mpg Civic teenage car, (I'm 36) or buy the big boy car? Remember my kids are 6 and 2 back doors might be nice.

I'd snatch it up if you are looking to upgrade transportation anyway. I would think you could trust the previous owner not to screw you.

I think that is one of the years that has transmission issues.

I had 2 of those. FANTASTIC cars. Little required maintenance on either of 'em.
Got just below 30 MPG and was really comfortable.

Luxury Honda, and all that it entails. Not sure if that motor is an interference motor or not. Check the timing belt/chain interval.

Trans was replaced in 03' at 21k miles. Timing belt was changed in the last 6 months.

At way below $7,500 it's a no brainer. Especially if the transmission, belt are done. Our 01 CL-S had some issues with the SRS system too, not sure if that affects the 02 TL. I didn't think the non type-S had 260 hp though?
