I don't think he quit on his own terms... word is that he got crossways with the money men (Davis and Simpson). He wasn't necessarily on the same page during Cliff Lee negotiations - Chuck was willing to bend over a little more to get him signed. Plus, there are rumors that he tried to devalue Michael Young's contract in order to get a trade deal done - which happens to be highly illegal in baseball. Sooooo... that's all I know.

As an aside... when I got up this morning I flipped on the Ticket, only to find commercials. I switched to KERA just as they announced Chuck's departure. Since that was big sports news, I switched back to the Ticket... where I was greeted with Japanese earthquake/tsunami news. Weird morning...
