I call dibbs if you can't get it to work
A friend of mine has a Jackson Racing header just collecting dust that he'll give me. It's for a 94-97 NA (I've got a '99). From what I understand, the header will bolt up to the block just fine but the connection to the cat is different and the EGR is different. It couldn't be that hard for an exahust shop to "fix" the cat flange right? Any idea how hard it would be to get the EGR to work? I'd hate to pass up a free header :)

The EGR tube will bolt up, but it's an absolute bitch to bend into place. It can be done, though...

That should be worth saving $489 on buying a new JR header though (well minus whatever it would cost to get the cat flange adjusted to fit an NB. I'll have to go get the header from him to see what kind of adjusting it would need. Does the flange just need to be rotated, or is there an angle issue, etc.

I've got the opposite setup from what you're looking for - '99 head bolted to the NA header - but you'll still have to bend the EGR pipe to fit. I haven't seen the collector end of an NB header, I can't imagine it would be too difficult for an exhaust shop to fix you up for $50. Hook it up on the top end then drive it to the muffler shop of your choosing! I did that way back when I put headers on my Camaro. The headers dumped into a Y-pipe, which had to be welded to the stock cat. I ended up having the guy weld a flange on the Y-pipe instead. IIRC it only set me back about $50.
Joe's Muffler in Addison would be my recommendation - he does nice work with his TIG welder.

This is sounding good... $50-60 for a JR header :)

just get a 01+ header or jdm nb header. they are not the cast junk that the 99 manifold is
I might end up doing that. My friend just told me he'd prefer me not Frankensteining it up :). Is the '01 header really that good? My father in law just put a header on his 01... I hope he kept the stocker...

The NA and NB headers have different flange designs. The NA has a cat right after the header and then the midpipe. NB has cat integrated into midpipe. I haven't tried it, but something in the back of my mind says others have tried it unsuccessfully.
