Nope. Stay out of left lane.

The House of Representatives in Texas has approved a new transportation bill, and it includes legislation that would allow the Texas Department of Transportation to raise speed limits to 85 miles per hour.
Car already is running 4000rpm at 80mph, 85mph would put it close to 4500 rpm. Even more of a reason for me to get the 3.63 gears.

Man a few years ago I'd cheer at this, but now this poses a major delimma for me. As it sits now I have to fight the urge to drive 10 over for the sake of gas mileage. I don't think I have it in me to drive 10 under, and gas mileage has to suck bigtime up there.
I get to choose between the low geared Miata and a toaster-on-wheels Honda Element, neither are exactly designed for high speed driving.

3800rpm at 85mph for my turbo car. This would make my cruising speed of choice legal for all those cruises back and forth to Texas tracks. Did I mention that I get 27mph at 85-90mph with the 350lb trailer? lol
This pretty much squares-up my need to put the spare 6-speed and spare 3.63 in my daily.
TXMC: Drinkin, shootin, racin!
Hey POS Racing, I guess we can cruise at 85 (or more) if we move to the left lane....right in front of Ken O!! Pairs go faster - just like NASCAR@ Daytona!
Um, this is pretty much moot, as the 85 mph areas are nowhere close to DFW. Unless you plan to move to the middle of nowhere, you need not concern yourself. On top of that, these roads already have an 80 mph limit, so not a huge jump.
More than anything, I'm optimistic this movement might spell the end of the ridiculous "night" speed limits... Texas is the only state in the nation to have them. Hell, look what they've done on the DNT! I drive up to Frisco sometimes just to go fast, even though nothign good ever happens there! :)
