    Question Microwave oven magnetron

Anyone ever replaced one on their own? I think mine has the bed.

Really? Not to discourage DIY efforts, but a new microwave is $30.

^Not this one...plus I had to buy a trim-kit for it since it's built in to a cabinet.

That's true, if you're the kind that likes to stack the new one on top of the old one.

Can you get parts for it?? If you can I gotta imagine it would be relatively simple to fix. YMMV

I have worked on several microwaves, but never replaced a megnetron.

That part that really concerns me is the high-capacity capacitor's in there.

After more research, the magnetron may still be under warranty....I need to contact Whirlpool first. Thanks for the help guys!

Wear rubber sole shoes. Keep one hand in your pocket. Only touch a potentially hot wire with the back of your hand.

And, most important, get POS Racing to do it. Then, YOU should be fine.

Talked to Whirlpool service....part would be covered, but service call and labor wouldn't be. $250.

Called Hurst Appliance - $200 to fix it.

Called TX Appliance - $220 for a brand new one.

Meh. Have them send you the part and put it in yourself.

It ain't rocket surgery. Just short the caps to ground before you fiddle with anything.

DIY a shorting probe with a screw driver, a wooden broom handle, jumper cables and some duct tape.
