Thread: Mobile forum access

  1. #1

    Default Mobile forum access

Statistics tell me that nearly 15% of visits to this site are now coming from iP*/Android devices. There have been requests from time to time to implement tapatalk, but I DO NOT like the way tapatalk integrates.

However, I am interested in supporting iPhone/iPod/iPad/Android using the app available from our overlords at vBulletin.

My motivation to go through the process/fork over the $$$ depends on the level of interest among the folks generating that 15% of traffic.

Please feel free to comment in this thread (note that this is not the opportunity to lobby for tapatalk) and vote in the poll.

It works as is on my Ipod using Safari. Any extra benefits using the VB app?

Most of the extra benes are for moderators, but the editor is better and it's generally easier to use. I've been using the sample app to access the vbulletin forums for the last year, and it is well done.

I'd use the app if it was free (I'm already a site supporter), but I'm happy with standard iPhone access on Safari.

Site works OK on my phone just the way it is, so I don't see a need, personally

I can see the site just fine on my dumb phone (Samsung Eternity). Some pictures that have high resolution are not displayed, but I can read the post just fine. I will probably upgrade to an iPhone soon, so it will not matter.

I like the idea if the app. It is so much easier to browse than with safari. If you get a chance check out the app for avsforums. I think it is free and tailchaser indicated to me it is similar to what we would get.

I'd be happy with either ad-supported or $1.99 for the app. But then I only really access the site from my phone when I'm not likely to be near a computer for a while. How about rolling the cost into the the fee for being a supporting member and make access to the app a supporter benefit/incentive to become one? No support, no app. Or is that too elitist? Supporting the forum is redonkulously cheap as it is, I don't think a few more dollars would be a deal-breaker.
