Thread: Stuxnet worm article

    Default Stuxnet worm article

The construction of the worm was so advanced, it was “like the arrival of an F-35 into a World War I battlefield,” says Ralph Langner, the computer expert who was the first to sound the alarm about Stuxnet.

Just how friggin' AWESOME is that?!?!? I'd read about it before, but not in such great detail. Whoever it is that built Stuxnet, they should be honored in a big way. Feared, too, if you get on their bad side.

That's one of the most badass stories I've ever read. Why is Wikileaks still up again?

This is waht caught my attention.

“This is what nation-states build, if their only other option would be to go to war,” Joseph Wouk, an Israeli security expert wrote.
...the most likely confederates are the United States, because it has the technical skills to make the virus, Germany, because reverse-engineering Siemen’s product would have taken years without it, and Russia, because of its familiarity with both the Iranian nuclear plant and Siemen’s systems.
If you're addicted to cold turkey how do you stop?

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

This is a long read, but like a Tom Clancey novel. I'm not a computer guy, but this is still fascinating.

"When Stuxnet first infected a system, before installing its malicious files, it checked the Windows registry for the number 19790509. If the number was there, Stuxnet passed over the system and didn’t infect it — like lamb’s blood marking the door frames of Jewish homes in ancient Egypt to ward off the Death of the Firstborn plague...But the researchers noticed that in this case the number resembled a date – May 9, 1979 — and suggested it might refer to the day an Iranian Jewish businessman named Habib Elghanian was executed by firing squad in Tehran. The execution was significant in Jewish history because it ultimately launched a mass exodus of Jews out of the Republic."
