Thread: Intercom Project

    Default Intercom Project

I've got one of these coming in right now that is going to be installed in the car between the seats. This will be my long trip hearing protection/talk to passenger solution.

I've found "automotive" intercoms which are essentially the same thing run 600 to a grand with headsets. One of the only times I've found that aviation gear is the "cheap" option lol.

I'll be running a Flight Com headset for me (driver) and a David Clark for the Pax. It'll be easily removable for the times I don't need it such as when not making trips in the car.

Intercom box came in today. Went out with my headset plugged it up to the car and it works as advertised. Still need to pick up a high to low impedance adapter for my 2nd headset and install the box in the car. I've been putting off getting that second adapter so this'll motivate me to pick one up on Monday.

Fidelity isn't as good with the aux input (iPhone) as I was hoping for but will work good enough for my tastes in the car and with the sound attenuation of the headset.

I'll do pics after the install.

At first I wanted to laugh at you, then I realized it's brilliant.

oh i am laughing at him. but i'm secretly lusting after a set myself..., oh wait. i already have a set from my failed attempt @ a Sport Pilot's License. hmmm maybe i should get the box. it would be perfect for road rallies.

It's perfect for long trips with the top down :). I have head sets laying around because I'm currently doing my private pilot course and in the MOS I'm in I can piece part broken pilot headsets and get a free headset lol.

I like my hearing and even the 70 miles from going from Saginaw to Mineral Wells makes my ears ring if I don't wear sound isolating earbuds or earplugs. This lets me cut ba on noise levels and listen to music and have a normal conversations with my pax without yelling.

oh i agree. also great for the road rallies we run. (two or three days on the road) especially since we can tap the head sets in to the radio next we run with other drivers.

What kind of radio do you use to talk to other drivers? What kind of road rallies do you do that last two or three days? That sounds sweet lol.

Edit-Oh yeah got it in the car.

dustball is the big one that we run. we're doing the border run this weekend. it's just a one day though and local to dfw. you should run it if you have time on saturday. would be nice not to be the only miata in the field.

for car to car we use cb and hand held radios. we also run scanners, radar detectors, laser jammers, multiple gps units, ectera ectera. takes alot of gear to keep up on the big rallies. the little one like this weekend, i'll run one or two gps's and a radar detector.

Is there a website for these events? I'm working all weekend :/ So I won't make it.

I've only done an SCCA road rally so far.

Edit- Found the Dustball rally site. Looks amazing :)
