If you work long enough on cars, there will come a time when someone will hand you their wrech after your craftsman failed to perform that the Snap-on simply removed the bolt the crastman rounded off the corners on. That philips head screw driver that you just busted the 5th tip in a row just got to be too much. Then you may find the value of spending the extra money. I did for these exact reasons.

Agreed. I used to buy just Craftsman tools too. Then I started working in a shop and using everything every day. Now most of my stuff is Snap-On, having been replaced when I had to return that particular Craftsman tool for the 2nd or 3rd time (screwdrivers especially...and air tools. I couldn't get a Craftsman air tool to work more than a week). Luckily I was able to write a lot of it off, so the cost in the long run wasn't as bad as people seem to think. I still have a bunch of Craftsman stuff too though, so I wouldn't say I'm drinking any particular Kool-Aid. And since I no longer work for a shop, nor know the local Snap-On dealer, I'm really back to only buying Craftsman stuff again if I need anything. Which is fine since I don't use things for 12 hours a day 5 or 6 times a week anymore.
When I was on a tool buying kick a few years back, I bought a bunch of Snap-on stuff used via EBay. Some of the pieces are not that special, but some are WAY better then my Craftsman stuff. In Particular, I LOVE my Snap-on Impact, 72 tooth ratchets, line wrenches, and extensions.
Craftsman quality has gotten much worse over the years. I still think it's good enough for the home wrench-turner, but not good enough for the pro's.
With HF, the bigger it is, the better your chances. I have thrown out many small HF hand tools in frustration like screw drivers, nut drivers, and combo wrenches. The only HF hand tools that I have been happy with are my 1/2" breaker bar and my orange rubber mallet. I guess it is also hard to complain about my $6 HF air grinder that has helped me out many times. The bigger items I have bought (welder, parts washer, engine hoist, and others) have all done there job without a problem.
HF can be really hit and miss. I used to shop there all the time when I had one around the corner from my house.
Had a small air compressor that the oil glass blew out on (while under full pressure). Was really happy I wasn't near it at the time.
If you're addicted to cold turkey how do you stop?
I reject your reality and substitute my own.
Since I was in the tool business for 15 years I have some insight into this (Mac 9 and Snap On 6).....what Sammm said is 100% on the money.
