Don't get me wrong either. I can't count how many times I've heard the arguement that some car is over classed or under classed or the modification they made should be legal. Trust me, if the General co-drove your car you would find out how little it matters how big your fuel injectors are.

(It's more fun to be last in X than 1st in B.)

I agree with STR, and STU cars being close to C and B stock cars on R-comps. The problem is when a CSP car on R-comps shows up.

I think BMW needs to add one class for R-comps, all cars on R-comps would run in it. That would open up Z for cars on street tires. CSP and BSP cars are a good match for SS cars and only a little slower than ASP cars(cough cough soft pax cough cough) on R-comps according to PAX, also move the NC Miata up to Y class.

The only way to really make it close to fair for everyone is going to a PAX based class, but I don’t think that would be good for BMW events as they are geared towards a more laid back event and driver that just make any mod they want without thinking about how it affects their class, and PAX is setup for guys that prep to SCCA rules (we don’t make that 1 mod that bumps us to Street Mod).

I don't know that I agree that categorically moving all NC Miatas to Y accomplishes anything. There is a big difference in the performance potential of a C Stock NC Miata on street tires and an STR prepped NC Miata. As the BMW classing stands today in X class, you have STS cars competing with stock NA, NB and NC Miatas. While the NA and NB are no match for an NC, an STS NA or an STR NB car have proven to be a good match for a stock NC. An STS Honda would be a good match as well. Either way you change around the classes, the stock NA and NB cannot compete in X. Similarly, a stock NC on street tires or a STS prepped Civic or Miata in Y class would not have much of a chance either.

Classing makes my head spin. Paxing sucks for me as E-Mod cars are always penalized. I think that we should have class limits based on what works for me

It's a BMW Club event. The classing of non-BMWs is irrelevant. If anything, there is only more than one non-BMW class for event management purposes.

I still think the NC in Y helps keep NA/NB's, Civics and other common low hp cars competitive in X. Tailchaser - as excellent of a driver as he is - was able to win the class by 0.8 sec in a car he'd never driven, after taking a year off from racing, against one of the best local drivers in a very fast STS-prepped NA, along with several other fast drivers.

Having said my piece and heard a majority of people who see it differently, I am done pushing the idea, and will run in the appropriate class at future events.

So is that X or Y?

I think that classing should be setup for the fastest scenario in case someone preps to the max letter of the law. If you bring a stock NC and expect to win against a STR NC in the same class it's your fault for bringing a knife to a gun fight.

I think there's just entirely too much seriousness at the BMW events... If you want to run in a class with similar cars, you need to bring something with a roundel on it... otherwise, enjoy the seat time and KNOW that someone can always show up with a car to trump yours.
