Windows 7 Network Question

Here at the World Headquarters we have seen a lot of Computers come and go in our 26 years and have several Ham Fisted folks set up this network (Me being one of them).

So now I finally have a just Windows 7 computers (Last XP computer went to a better place) and I want to setup the network correctly.

All I have are 3 computers, A NAS, and a wireless printer so not a lot of stuff on the network.

Is there anyway to just kill the existing network and start fresh???

What are you trying to undo? Assign new static IPs? Assign static IPs in general?

Are you having one computer act as a server (assuming the NAS)? If that was switched to 7 awhile ago, you should be good.

Windows 7 has "normal" networking and groups or whatever they call it. If you have all Win 7 machines, setting up the group is basically the same as mapping to a network drive.

What I am trying to do is - As I mentioned above I want to setup the network correctly. We had just added and subtracted to what we have always had for years and have now hit a point where it isn't really working.

I'd like to forgo the current setup and start fresh. Like I have all new stuff.

First thing I need to do is get all the computers to forget the current setup so I can start over.

Why would I want to do this you may ask - well I got one computer that sometimes asks for a network password that no one knows & another computer is sometime on the network and sometimes it isn't. Keep in mind I currently only have 3 PC on this network and the NAS.

We run more of a peer to peer setup without a dedicated server. We are a sales office so Quickbooks & Microsoft Office 2007 are the two main programs.

I don't think there is a one-step network reset for Windows 7, to be honest. You'd have to unmap/share everything, ipconfig /renew on all computers, reset the router, and start fresh. That's what I did when I got my new computer and put 7 on it. I have my computer, had the wifey's computer till a few days ago, her netbook, my laptop, my tablet, both our iPhones, a wireless all-in-one, and the blu-ray player.

The bright side is that 7's network setup is actually as easy as it was in XP.
