Have you checked the timing??
More stuff -> http://www.miata.net/garage/ignition.html
So ive been on miata fourm and no one there seems to know what might be wrong with my car.
The probem is i cant get passed 4k rpms in any gear but 5th,ive tried before taking off on 1st and flooring it to see if i could get past 4k but it wont i have to shift. Its like im redlining right between 3k and 4k rpms...it feels like there is rev limiter there or something
i cant seem to figure out what it is ive read it could be it a spart plug issue.(can any one tell me how spark plugs can effect the rpms from rising higher)
or crank issue
or maybe clutch
could someone maybe meet up so they can see first hand and maybe get an idea of what it is
Have you checked the timing??

You just made zero sense right there.

Could be a lot of things. If you are not knowledgeable enough to trouble shoot, you might want to bring it to a skilled Miata mechanic. Track Dog Racing in Dallas or Miata Solutions North of Alliance Airport in Fort Worth depending on what is more convenient.
My thoughts are it could be bad plug wires, bad plugs, clogged cat, timing is off, CAS is bad, timing belt slipped, clogged fuel filter, clogged fuel injectors, fuel pump going out, etc...
Without seeing the car and checking it out this is hard to trouble shoot.

thanks this helps alot
im located in the grapevine/euless area
Well there are a few variables the first replacing spark plugs then checking for spark then coils then replace plugs then check for continuity and resistance in the air meter then check the spark output on the coil for a late 95 on or the CAS for early cars and possibly the computer after that there are multimeter diagnostic details on Miata.net but I'm going to bet money that you have a severed wire or plug and wire issue

Is it a hard cut at 4k and does it also happen while the car is in neutral?
Have you washed your engine lately?
Nothing like the whine of a SC at full throttle!
its not really a hard cut. its like the engine can push no more, like if i try to make it go past that 4krpms i could blow the engine.
its like the same as if you reached your redline and kept pushing past 8krpms
the car is fine in idle, has no problems there and it picks up speed well but i know for sure its not reaching its full potential in rpms..ya know??
im going to do the sparks first and see if that was the problem.
and no,i have not washed the engine bay or and have not got the throttle cable wet
do you guys know if there is a meet at kellers this week for sure??
i could drive there and maybe someone can see what i mean?
Maybe 4 wheels aren't so bad after all... wickett.org

The same thing that is wrong with his spelling and grammar. Did I read you correctly when you said any gear BUT 5th? does that mean your engine revs past 4000 in 5th?
I had the same thing happen to me. The timing belt jumped a tooth or two. I replaced it (and the obligatory idlers, water pump, and oil seals) and all is well. It is not too hard. Just takes time.

thanks man
im going to start with new spark plugs and and ill then move to the timing belt if problem continues
Put plug wires on your shopping list too.
