Thread: Need help with Coilover install...Again.

I was referring to that being the hardest part about the suspension swap that or breaking the lug nuts if you dont have air tools hahaha.... It's an easy task I know I worked on bell 206 and 206L's (helicopters) for 4 years. The sad thing is cars are 1 million times harder to work on from the tight spaces to how dirty they are.... I truly have respect for a good car mechanic!

If you need a spring compressor, Autozone will loan you one for free.

So we're on the same page: it's not actually difficult, it's just the most "difficult" part of the job. I will agree with that.

Help me get a paid internship there while I'm still a student? Pretty please?

Paid internship I know southwest did one years ago.... I got laid off and fell into car sells now I do that part time and marketing for our dealer group and make more money doing this than aviation stuff..... It's kinda sad I never knew it paid this well. Eurocopter and Bell start out if you're cert around 26-28 an hour...... which isn't bad at all. Check L3 out in greenville that's a good place to get your foot in the door.

I'm a mechanical engineering student, not aviation related, so not sure Southwest offers what I'd be looking for. One of the guys in one of my classes last semester landed an internship at Bell, so I know they at least have something occasionally. Thanks for the heads up though, I will give them a look-see and maybe something will pop up.

I think they have two kinds. Get the one that looks like this:

A good impact wrech makes using these a lot easier, but it is not required.

Do you really need all that?? I thought I read somewhere on the interweb where you could just movers blanket.

Boy will probably be back a third time asking for help when crappy used coilovers fail in the not-too-distant-future, then give-up and buy the Versa he is destined to own. Also, MR.BRG is extra-meanie!

    did I miss anything?

The "trackdog method" involves wrapping it with towels and standing on it. Always seemed to work.

That same method worked for me on a mazda 3, but I needed the compressor to put the spring on the new strut.

there some kind of un-known hate you have going on towards me simply because of my post...? Because you sure are talkin a big game behind that keyboard. Just curious.
Oops, you accidentally sent this as a pm. I'm sure you intended to post it publicly.

No "hate", as you kids like to say. Hate is personal; I don't know you personally, so I don't have any need to hate you. Overused term. I talk a big game in person too, Junior.

I'm even down for just hosting a general tech day if anyone else wants to show up to hang out or do some stuff to their car.

But...that still leaves the issue with you not wanting to drive too far. I live just past TMS in Haslet, so pull up Google maps and see if it's worth the drive to you.

If y'all do this I'm interested in hanging and watching, too lazy to actually work :)
Got floor jacks, stands, air tools, might have spring compressors have to check. Of course I'm limited to bringing what will fit in a Miata :)

Highly doubt it. If it isn't hate, then what is it? And why even do it? Is me asking for some help and guidance that big of a load on your shoulders? The online write-ups are nice, and useful to a lot of people. I just like to get that help with someone actually there, performing the job with me. Gives me a better understanding as to what goes on. Please accept my sincerest apologies, oh great one.
