    Thanks. Good info. Might just end up getting a timing light. But considering how infrequently I would use it, I'm considering other options.

    A 97 does not have a knock sensor so the ECU has no way or reporting knock. Just buy a timing light as it is way cheaper than the damage knock can do to your engine.

    Too bad. Left with only one option (timing light).

    Just go buy or borrow a timing light from an auto parts store.

    I have one you can borrow. Come over to my house and borrow it at your leisure.

    IIRC, Addison to Kyle is only about 4 hours each way.
