Thread: OK all you EE's!!

    Default OK all you EE's!!

Need to order a resistor to fool srs computer into thinking the seat airbag is still present. Others have had success with a 2.2 or 3.3 ohm 0.5W resistor.

Question 1: will a 1W resistor achieve the same result? Is there a reason I shouldn't use a resistor with a higher-than-spec wattage rating?

Question 2: Is there a local source for resistors, besides Radio Shaft? They don't stock the values I'm seeking.
    Thx!

the W will really apply to the size (physically) and how much power it can handle. Going up makes it bigger and shouldn't be an issue.

I order from Mouser, which is in Mansfield. Since you're down there you might see if they'll let you pick up a handful since it's going to be like a dime.

Frys and Altex also carry loose resistors.

I got mine from Tanner Electronics in Carrollton when I did my CPU work.

Thx. I wondered about Fry's. That's the easy button for me!

+1 for Mouser if Fry's doesn't have one, they're usually pretty quick.

I have a 2.2 ohm resistor you can have. It is a 1/4 watt though. IMHO you will be fine with a 1/4 watt as there isn't any real current ever going through there. If you want it email me and I'll mail it to you tommorow morning.

I use allied electronics for most parts I need. They have a 350,000 square foot warehouse in West Fort Worth: http://www.alliedelec.com

Ok you should be getting the resistor soon. Look for the envelope from al-Qaeda that is full of wires.
