Another trick that I learned is to turn the adjustment knobs on the front shocks in different directions. This way you only have to cut the front wheels in one direction to access the adjustment knob for both front shocks.

I have put all the adjustment knobs towards the rear of the car on both of my Miatae. It might take an extra 20 seconds (1-2 times a month maybe) to turn the wheel the other direction when adjusting them. Then again I know there won't be anything flying up from the front of the car hitting them. YKnobsMV.

Thats the same thing I was thinking, not to mention I would think it would keep out more dirt too.

I guess I will be posting here and on the pointy board for help WHEN I run into trouble.

I am guessing I will pull all the old springs first so that I can get the spring compressor back to wherever I rent one from so I dont have to pay for two days, its likely to take me that long as I will be going slow and researching as I am doing it.

As much as I am looking forward to the upgrades I am not looking forward to having a bout with my Intermittent Explosive Disorder...lol

Do you not have AutoZones in your neck of the woods, the spring compressor is like $15.00 and when you return it the give you your $15.00 back.

You really need to spend some time up front and read and understand what you are fixing to do. It will greatly help elevate some Explosive disorder. Here is that link again = http://www.sandiegomiataclub.org/SDM...ge/Shocks.html

If you’re not comfortable doing this job by yourself there are other options.

I tried that with the KYBs on my '99, but the knob facing forward on the passenger side kept contacting something, so I turned it to face rearward like the other three.

Thanks again, any help with the install
process is appreciated I will read as much as I can before I attempt this.

No, I dont feel comfortable doing this on my own but, I dont have the money to pay a shop to do it.
So, I will have to figure it out on my own.

Thats a kewl deal I didnt know it was so cheap to rent, hell I wonder what a set would cost if I just bought them?

I am sure someone could use them in the future, and I will no doubt have to do this again on my other transportation at some point.
I guess I will check on that too....thanks for the info!

If so I guess i gotta go buy a Drill too.

No drilling required, not on the AGX's they are a direct fit.

Bingo. Drilling the mounts is required for Konis, but KYBs are a direct fit.

I may be available that weekend to help if you need it. I have a set of spring compressors as well as all of the other tools to do the job, including the torque wrench that I left out of the tool list. I'll know for sure when I get back next Friday.

Man that would be great Brock, an experienced person around would be a great help!!!
I also understand if you cant make it too, and appreciate even the thought of coming to help.
I would be doing most or all of the work to gain experience, I would feel guilty any other way.
Thanks for the heads up about the drilling too guys, I am glad I dont have to do that...whew!
I went out today and bought two more jack stands and an extra jack, also a Torgue wrench...will be doing an inventory of my toolbox tomorrow to see if I have everything, if not I will go and get what I dont have tomorrow...and check on the compressor, my curiousity is peaked on how much they cost now.
If its too much I will rent one when the time comes unless Brock can make it out to help. :)
Once again, thanks a million for the help it is greatly appreciated!!!!

Got the springs in today, quick shipping through Flyin Miata..well packaged too!
Also went and bought the rest of the tools I needed, thinking about going back and getting an electric Impact wrench too, I'm sure I could use it for other things too right?,...justifying the purchase...lol.

Well that's it I will let ya'll know how it goes and post a pic or two when its finished next weekend, unless something comes up and I have to put it off another week ie,...rain etc.

Well,.... I finally got the springs, shocks, and dust boots installed in the car!

Thank GOD I had a friend come in from out of town to help- me with this,
He helped with goffering and stepping on the hubs I would have never gotten it done on my own.
    Just no way possible!

The car rides much much better and I would recomend this set-up to anyone.
I am getting the allignment Monday morning.
I am running the shocks on 1 in the front, and 2 in the back and it rides and corners great.
The impact wrench came in very handy, however I found no way to torque the bolts on the top of the shock on the rear drivers side, there are six gas lines and such on top of the dang shock area....so I got them as tight as I could and called it a day.
It took me all of one day and a couple of hours of the next day.
The pass. side front and drivers side rear were the nightmare ones to do.
Will post a pic of the car later, I imagine the springs will settle a bit with a little more driving.

well its over,....got the allignment done today(great people down there)
The #'s are exact to what I wanted and the car handles great!!!

A little more bumpy than what I expected but a small price to pay for flat cornering, and its really not unbearable...so I am happy.

Now on to the next project, finishing with the Header and Midpipe.
Then I am going to have to wait til next year for any further upgrades per agreement with the spousal unit...lol

Come on Billy...We all know you can't stop the upgrades... your on a roll.
My money says that you'll keep going even after the header and midpipe with or with out the concent of the better half. So tell me??? What's it gonna be...a "TURBO" ?? or a "SUPERCHARGER" ??

I am sure thats gonna be way down the road, I have to get the car paid off before I do that...lol

I am thinking though, not that you asked...a voodoo turbo, just an entry level thing with very little maint. to worry about.
That way I dont have to buy a lot of other stuff that would continually keep me in the dog house.
Thanks for coming out and lending moral support by the way, it was nice to visit with you again. Let me know about the other events we talked about.
