Default Pitchers and catchers reported today...

...and the Dutch Oven apparently has a new set of wheels to go along with all his other funny bits.

Kinda like the junior-sized version of Tupac's ride, which makes just a little more comical.

Look out Texas... The A's traded away their best pitchers, convinced Manny and Colon that Oakland was better than retirement, and threw 36M at a Cuban who has never faced major league pitching. I think Colon and Brandon McCarthy are fighting it out for opening day pitcher.

It's funny you mention the A's... I'm about halfway through Moneyball right now and I'm thinking, "man, how could this ever fail?" Poor, poor A's... what the hell happened out there? Are they just so broke that all they can do is offer free hot dogs to broken down players?

    LOL

I was just reviewing the list of pitchers that recorded starts for the A's in 2011-
    Trevor Cahill (34 starts)- Traded.
    Gio Gonzalez (32 starts)- Traded.
    Brandon McCarthy (25 starts)- Returning.
    Guillermo Moscoso (21 starts)- Traded.
Rich Harden (15 starts)- A's declined arbitration. Will reportedly miss 2012 season due to arm operation.
Brett Anderson (13 starts)- Tommy John Surgery last July. Expected return is 2013.
    Josh Outman (9 starts)- Traded.
    Tyson Ross (6 starts)- Returning.
    Graham Godfrey (4 starts) Returning.
Dallas Braden (3 starts)- Shoulder surgery last May. Expected to be available mid April.

Right now, Oakland's biggest problem is that they play in a nasty old stadium that is a pitchers park. The condition of the stadium keeps attendance down, and the low attendance and pitchers park scare away free-agent hitters. As explained in Moneyball, Billy Beane is constantly look for under valued players, and taking advantage of others. Unable to attract hitters, they load up on good defensive players that are undervalued by the league. This makes the pitchers look better than they actually are. Then add in the ballpark effect, and the pitchers look down right incredible. Then he trades them at the height of their value for minor league prospects to cut cost, start the process over, and hopefully some day snag a great offensive player. They also are good at picking up recovering pitchers, as the park and defense is a great place for them to show the league they deserve another big contract.

Hopefully all will change in about 3 years. Word has it that they will be approved for a move to San Jose very soon, and construction will start soon on "Cisco Field". With a new ballpark, attendance will go way up, they will have more money, and FA hitters will be more likely to take their money. Additionally, the pitchers they just traded would be too expensive by the time the new ballpark opens, and the prospects they were traded for will be ready for prime time and still cost controlled.
