Maybe 4 wheels aren't so bad after all... wickett.org

AN IMPRESSIVE UPPER-LEVEL LOW WILL MOVE EWD ACROSS THE FOUR CORNERS
REGION AND INTO THE HIGH PLAINS SATURDAY EVENING. MODEL FORECASTS
DEVELOP THUNDERSTORMS ALONG A WELL-DEFINED DRYLINE DURING THE
EVENING FROM WRN OK SSWWD ACROSS NW TX INTO WCNTRL TX. FORECAST
SOUNDINGS SATURDAY EVENING ALONG THIS CORRIDOR SHOW MODERATE
INSTABILITY...STRONG DEEP LAYER SHEAR AND STEEP MID-LEVEL LAPSE
RATES WHICH SHOULD BE FAVORABLE FOR SUPERCELLS WITH LARGE HAIL.
SUPERCELLS SHOULD BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING 2 INCH OR GREATER HAIL DUE
TO THE THERMODYNAMIC PROFILE. STRENGTHENING LOW-LEVEL SHEAR DURING
THE EVENING SHOULD ALSO RESULT IN A TORNADO THREAT AS WELL.

I hope I can make it back to Frisco before the hail starts!

Plus, those poor animals. First the "ordeal" with Ozmdd, then they get pelted with golf-ball size hail. Talk about a bad day.

Great event JJ! The course was a workout, but fun and challenging. A good run felt pretty rewarding. Quite a few newer faces who were fast, and a ton of car variety. Thanks to all who were flexible about work assignments and some corner changes we made to adjust. It's really nice to have y'all keep things running smoothly. A really big thanks to Ben Castillo and TXCoyote who got stuck with some really busy jobs and never complained a bit!

I heard a lot of good feedback from many drivers about the instructors: Mwortham, Miatamoto, and slowchildmiata. Thanks to them. I think Mark must've ridden-along 20+ runs!!

Had a blast today! Fun and long course. Nice seeing a big turnout and different cars. Bring on the Pro Solo!

Thanks to everyone who has put so much effort into these events, and made them the most well organized I've ever attended. I liked the course today, but I definitely did 1 event more than I should have on these tires. That said, I think I'm done with autocrossing for a while. As I've done 2 times before (1995 and 2004), my enjoyment / cost ratio from autocrossing has dropped below the point where I can justify the cost of new tires. When I combine that with my likely homelessness from medically induced poverty, it's a lock. In our country, when someone in a middle class family gets sick, that family isn't going to be middle class any more.

Now for the SPAM. Some of you know that I spent about 14 months working on an exhaust system for my S2000. My original intent was just to develop something that I thought everyone else was just too friggin' lazy or cheap to do. After all, the S2000 market is small, and there are TONS of aftermarket systems already available (that suck). My goals for that project were to A) have NO drone and B) have good performance with a catalytic converter. I had no thoughts about developing any "new technologies", but planned to put in the effort that I thought someone else would have done if the market would justify it.

The result of my efforts were mind boggling, and went so far beyond my measly goals. I have actually advanced the state of the art for exhaust technology, and filed a 28 page patent application for it. The technology is not S2000 specific, but totally benefits any engine that impliments some sort of high lift / duration / overlap cam profile (like any VTEC or iVTEC setup). It must have been God's divine provision that I just happened to use an S2000 to develop this exhaust system, since I don't think I could have reached these findings with any other platform. What I mean by that is that I don't know of any other platform where almost everyone believes that the only performance benefit from a $1500 exhaust system is weight savings! HOGWASH! I've found that a well designed exhaust system is actually the lowest hanging fruit, even with a catalytic converter!

The reason for this SPAM is that I need to put this in some other cars. I'm not looking for money, but just the oportunity to get it out there. If you think you have a car that might benefit from this type of thing, please contact me. I have TONS of material to donate to the project, and won't charge for my time (really crappy welding). If the results on your car are good enough to move forward with some sort of production "thing", then I'll make sure you get a production unit for free too.

BTW, the "invention" goes between the header or catalytic converter and mufflers, and has very little impact on the tone of your exhaust. The only real sound change is that it reduces the sound level at the drone RPM (~3500 RPMs for S2000s).

Below is a video showing how I spent hundreds of evenings or mornings over the last year. I would come home from my full-time job, put my car on 4 tall jack stands, remove some or all of my exhaust, cut and weld something, reinstall, then retune and test for the net effect. Obviously, I had to automate the retune and data collection / processing. This video shows less than half of the software / automation that resulted.

Fun day, tired after fighting the wind all day. Miata's were strong today. Some might say it was a Miata course. Regardless it was a fun day. I made two observations; McShane is the king of the Texas Miata's and I think jbh would have been a more competitive if he had his hands in the 10 and 2 position instead of on his girlfriend

Well I may just stay with instructing from now on.... Since I can't drive. Haven't made mistakes like that in over a year.

Thanks again to everybody who helps put these events on.

Course was great, event well organized, had a great time, friendly people, blah blah blah.

I DID NOT appreciate the attitude of the cones. They were all just standin' around, looking all "orangey" and what not.

One of them is all "My Uncle is a pyramid", then the next one is like "I betcha can't knock ME over". Sheesh.

I just hope they bring in a higher class of cones for next weekend. I'd hate to have visitors thinking all the cones in TX were a bunch of arrogant pricks.

    This right here.

I came off course each time out of breath and mentally taxed. Haven't done that in quite a while. And it's not like I'm not in shape or old or something. Well, scratch part of that.

Mad props to JJ for a nice layout. Hoping the Pro will embody some of that spirit. Except maybe the "offsets of pain" near the finish.

To JJ: meant to tell you this yesterday when we were talking about the course. When setting up offsets, the aspect ratio (offset from centerline divided by distance between cones) is what typically determines the level of pain/enjoyment for that element, assuming straight entry/exit. Between 3:1 and 4:1 seems to be the sweet spot...anything more open is flatout for many...anything tighter is painful. Much of that finish was in the 2:1 range, so they drove more like a series of 90-degree turns. Just a tip that may help for the future. Feel free to ignore as the ramblings of a grumpy old guy.

Also thanks to JJ for spelling me at the end so I could get out of there a tad early. I barely made it across town for my other commitment, but got it done. Thanks!
