Lightbulb new and seeking after MX-5

    Hi everyone,

I'm relatively new even in US, moved to Irving a month ago, and decided I go for a Miata.
    Now I spend my free-time ( &half work-time:) on craigslist/autotrader/etc or listening dealers speech about "one&only" cars..
I registered here, hoping might some of you can help me out with tips or heard about some good deal..

Thanks, Hope to hear from you, until it, I'm going back to my notes :)

Give us an idea of your price range, mechanical experience, driving needs (local or road trips) and whether you plan to use the car for daily driving-only or maybe some motorsports as well (autocross, track days). Are you looking for an unmodified stock Miata or one that has already had some upgrades added?

    Got a preference on MK1, MK2 or MK3?

    Welcome!

    Thanks,
    Im from Hungary (EU)

The car will be on daily use too (because only car) but why I need Miata is road trips.
So, even in love the shape of MK1, Im thinking in MK2 or MK3. No motorsport plans at the moment so looking an unmodified stock one.
I started to look face-lifted MK2 (2003-4-5) in a price range $5000-9000 but what Ive seen, are not in good condition. Now started thinking on MK3 round $10.000-13.000. Bit confused...
About mechanical experience, I have 2 motorbikes back home, usually do myself small maintenance task as oil, brake-fluid, air filter, spark plugs change, etc.
But here I have no tools and garage so will be a bit more challenging..:)

You should have little trouble with that budget. A 2006-2007 NC (we call the MK1=NA, MK2=NB, MK3=NC) can be found with nice options in that price range. There are plenty of folks on this forum who can offer a garage/tools if you ever need to do maintenance, and there are two Miata specialists shops in the area.

If you don't need leather and the Bose stereo, the base model NC is pretty well-optioned, has the 5-speed manual and tend to be close to the $10K range. A 2006 GT should be around $12K.

There are quite a few of us who attend autocross events on the weekends and some folks who meet in Dallas at Keller's drive-in (hamburgers and beer) on Wednesday evenings. Either would be a very good place to see several different cars in person and get to ask questions and maybe test-drive a few models.

I've always liked that color...looks like a nice one. Congrats!

Miles are a bit on the high side, but that's reflected in the price.

If you can pay that much for a car then spending $150 for a basic tool kit from sears is well worth it to do the work yourself.
