Don't you also own a couple of other, more practical vehicles as well, though?Originally Posted by ccage

Just kidding, Iain, but your comment made me start to think. Actually, with gas prices at over $2/gal now (and on their way to $2.50 summertime maybe), I'm starting to think of my two Miatas as the "couple of other, more practical vehicles."Originally Posted by altiain
It occured to me the other day that it essentially costs me half as much to fill up the Miata as the Jeep or F150. At about a tank a week that's about $30/week or $1560/year. At a tank and a half a week that's $2340/year. Wow. It seems like at those kind of dollars it'd start looking pretty sweet to pick up something (like a Miata) just to save gas! It'd pay for itself in a couple of years. Heck, at $2.50/gal, a '90s Civic hatch could pay for itself in a year!
One thing's for certain -- the Miatas are getting a lot more driving than before, and not just when the weather's pretty...
Interesting.
